Keanu Reeves is still open to Matrix 4, under some conditions

02.20.2017

THE MATRIX stands not only one of the greatest movies of the 90’s, but also in the entirety of the sci-fi/action genre. Influential for so many reasons, the first MATRIX is a classic worthy of a time capsule being sent into space for aliens to find. The sequels…not so much. Still, that isn’t stopping fans from wanting a fourth outing, which they may get if the planets align in just the right way, and if Keanu Reeves' requirements are met.

While talking with Yahoo about JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2, Reeves was asked about the possibility of returning for a fourth MATRIX movie featuring his character, Neo. Though he sounded a bit unsure the movie could even happen, he has his own conditions that would need to be met in order for him to even consider it:

The Wachowskis would have to be involved. They would have to write it and direct it. And then we’d see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that’d be weird, but why not? People die, stories don’t, people in stories don’t.

Of course this is no indication anyone is trying to make this happen, but it's encouraging to know Reeves hasn't slammed the door shut. Anyone who has seen the final movie in the MATRIX trilogy, THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS, knows Neo dies at the end, but Oracle hints this may not be the last we see of him. Like Reeves said, people in stories don’t die, and in a world like the one in MATRIX anything is possible...even another good MATRIX movie.

It’s no doubt the final two movies left a bad taste in fans mouths, but I think enough time has passed for a fourth movie to be welcomed completely. Nowadays, with nostalgia playing a big role in the marketplace, if the Wachowskis and the cast wanted to return I’m sure the studio would be down. No matter what happens Reeves has found a new franchise in JOHN WICK, and for that alone he deserves his own statue in a fancy park.

JOHN WICK 2 is in theaters now. Like, RIGHT NOW!!

So only if the Wachowskis return? Sounds highly unlikely, Neo's story arc was complete and was established he wasn't the only "ONE" so Keanu doesn't have to reprise his role unless maybe in a cameo capacity otherwise let a new "ONE" takeover, besides where would you even take the fourth mov- OOOOHHH, I see what you did there Mr. Reeves.

With the sequels the W Bros got rather pretentious. They tried to out-mindblow the mindblow of the first movie, and it all got a bit wanky. I don't think the W Bros know how to reign in the Pretentiousness.

I would need a really well written script.
And do a Star Wars and get in young, smart directors.

Yes to a Matrix 4

But keep the Wachowskis out of it, there are other better options like Gareth Evans, Stahelski....

Because they know how to write sequels, huh?

The power of the first matrix was the subtlety of it all, reloaded and revolution peeled back the whole thing and it just wasn't exciting anymore. I'm not into philosophy or anything but ive heard if your a fan of that kind of stuff, 2 and 3 are mindblowing, but as a casual fan they were just too much to digest at once. The Wachowski's just don't have it anymore sorry to say. They've been given ample opportunity to redeem themselves and they've failed every time since Matrix 1 (athough I am a

They've been given ample opportunity to redeem themselves and they've failed every time since Matrix 1 (athough I am a fan of speedracer, even though they should have just made it into a Mario kart movie). They need to get someone in fresh, but if Keanu isn't on board without the wachowskis...then I hope this NEVER gets made.

Keanu is loyal....to a fault...the size of San Andreas

The W "Brothers" are incapable of writing what needs written...which is a sequel that largely ignores the 2 prior sequels....which is exactly what they deserve. Trying to turn perhaps the best action movie ever into a sappy love story is for shit.

Out of sheer pride, they will feel a compulsion to justify the existence of those two films, which will only detract from the 4th film. This process has been done before and done well in another franchise...Star Wars.

JJ Abrams could pull this

JJ Abrams could pull this off and has enough cache to sell it to Keanu. I love the first movie too much to watch another Wachowski produced bastardization of the original film.

Even though it would be cool to see what the three of them could come up with for a fourth Matrix film, I feel like too much time has passed between now and Revolutions. And the fact that the Wachowski siblings haven't been the same since in terms of quality films.

I don't think there should be any ducks in it. Doesn't really fit the aesthetic. .

The 2nd and 3rd film were awful

They completely negated what made the first one so cool. They turned Zion into a orgy club fest, and made bullet time CGI Keanu time. The first one stands alone and is a fantastic film.

1. I love The Matrix. It's still one of my favourite films of all time.

2. The sequels weren't great, but I've always thought - if the Wachowskis had trimmed them down to one sequel, then it possibly would've been better received.

3. I would be up for a new Matrix. I'd want to see it on IMAX 3D. I'd want the old guard back - Reeves, Weaving, Fishburne & Moss - but with a new younger cast (female lead?). Maybe they could have old Keanu mixing with young Keanu? Maybe Neo & Smith need to

4. Echoing the comment below- I think Sense8 is awesome so would prioritise that over a new Matrix.

5. If anyone other than the Wachowskis took on the Matrix franchise I'd go with Christopher Nolan - based on Inception alone.

Meh, Wachowskis should stay on Sense8 which is amazing and even after that stay on premium TV - it is a way better format for the style and themes they like to explore. I feel no desire for another Matrix movie.
