Catherine Keener Catherine Keener has joined the cast of the upcoming drama THE SOLOIST. Under ATONEMENT and PRIDE AND PREJUDICE director Joe Wright based on a script by ERIN BROCKOVICH scribe Susannah Grant who based her script on a series of articles by LA Times columnist Steve Lopez, the film centers on a homeless schizophrenic musician named Nathaniel Ayers who accomplished a dream of playing at LA's Disney Hall. Foxx will play Ayers with Robert Downey Jr. playing Lopez. If Keener's lucky, she can once again essentially play herself opposite an Oscar winning performance, the impressiveness of which will render her non-performance impressive enough to garner an Oscar nod for herself. Keener can next be seen in the Spike Jonze drama WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK and in the comedy HAMLET II.

If the hallmark of being great is making the difficult look easy, then Catherine Keener is an excellent actor. Check out Living in Oblivion: she gives such an incredibly nuanced performance in that flick. Steve Carell was terrified of working with her in The 40-Year-Old Virgin but he's in awe of how good she is as a performer.

Okay, first of all, Catherine Keener was married to Dermot Mulroney? Since 1990?? WTF???

Whew! Now that that's outta the way, YAY!!! I swear, either I find myself watching everything she's in, or she's in everything I watch. I'm not sure which it is. And the one time she didn't EXACTLY play herself and got an award nom was for "Being John Malkovich," where no one else was nominated for acting. She just played a much bitchier versionof herself, while Tess Harper was a version of her more in

She just played a much bitchier versionof herself, while Tess Harper was a version of her more in touch with her southern roots. (I'm right in calling those her roots, right? I'm unfamiliar with her ancestry, so yeah, because I know she's from Miami originally.)
