Kelly Overton is your new Van Helsing

02.17.2016

Meet Kelly Overton.

She'll be your new Van Helsing for the foreseeable future, landing the title role of the Syfy series of the same name for the show's 13-episode first season run, announced late last year, that'll be hitting the cable airwaves whenever it's ready. For VAN HELSING, Overton will be playing Vanessa Helsing (See... They stayed true to the namesake), a descendant of the legendary vampire hunter who must lead the fight against a world controlled by bloodsuckers in order to give humanity a chance.

Overton is probably best known for her role as the werewolf Rikki Naylor on HBO's TRUE BLOOD during its cable run, but she was also a player on TNT's LEGENDS and had a recurring role on The CW's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

Also joining the cast of VAN HELSING are Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, Paul Johansson, David Cubitt and Tim Guinee, with more to come.

Dumb

Van Helsing is overrated anyway. He couldn't even kill a vampire in the story he was featured in. He had Lucy's husband kill her when she turned, and Harker killed Dracula. Van Helsing was a vampire hunter the way Edison was an inventor

OK, my only reason for even going here is the name. Who is she? No idea. Don't even really care. But Kelly Overton was the name of my English teacher in high school. That's all.

Plain awful

Since when is Joblo.com covering stories for shitty cable shows? I've seen the Sharknado movie news every now and then on this site, but that would be it.

Awful click bait. I love this site, but this is just plain awful.

By the way, I say click bait because the last couple of months we have had some news regarding a-listers joining the Universal's Monsters cinematic universe, and a title like this would follow that line of news.

Why is this click bait? It's an item in movie/TV news today. What am I missing here? It's either a shitty show that you don't care about (hence, why click?) or click bait for an interesting item. You seem to be saying both here.

This is awful. Joblo, you guys have been posting numerous stories regarding the new Universal monster universe. The Mummy and Tom Cruise joining, the Invisible Man, Johnny Depp etc...so when you post a title saying " Here's your new Van Helsing" what are we supposed to think? It's complete click bait

So we're supposed to assume that most people are expecting more news about the Universal monster universe and ignore this story even though it's a valid headline and article? You do realize that 50% of our traffic comes from NEW VISITORS every day, right? Are they also thinking that it's about the Universal movies or just see it as a headline which says what it is? I mean, she did get cast as VAN HELSING, didn't she? I understand what you guys are saying but methinks you're reading a little too

Is that our rep? Surely not. Let's just take it easy on our writers here and if you really "love the site" as you all do, maybe try and support us a little more rather than taking potshots are our writers or rep. BTW, our rules state "No comments about our writers" and we reserve the right to BAN members for that, so please stick to commenting about the content in the article, and not the writers, who are simply doing their jobs. For you. For free.

Thanks for replying, JoBlo.

Just one point, You say "it might be a shitty show that I don't care about (hence, why click)?". Well, I clicked because the title doesn't address it is a news article about a shitty show, it is not clear nor explanatory at any level. Then you say "or click bait for an interesting item". An interesting item doesn't need click bait.

Please don't take it like I have something personal against the site or Mr. Donelly. I just love this site and I think Billy has

Please don't take it like I have something personal against the site or Mr. Donelly. I just love this site and I think Billy has greatly improved the manner he includes his personal point of views into the articles he releases. It is just a little feedback from me (and by the looks of it, everyone else posting here).

Keep up the good job and I send you both you and Billy a big hug from Australia.

I concur. The article detail is fine, and even interesting. But the title comess across misleading. "Kelly Overton is Syfy's new Van Helsing" may have caused less confusion. Cheers though!

Just go away the lot of you. I'm sick and tired of seeing the bitching on this site. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember and this mob have done a great job bringing a constant stream of news to us. If you want to assume a story is about something then you're the ass, not Joblo. Click bait? Gimme a break.

Wtf. All this commotion for a piece of TV news? It's a site for TV / movie news, and they covered some TV / movie news. Look I get creative criticism, but getting legitimately upset about a post headline is ridiculous. I didn't think it was clickbait, but even IF it was, who the fuck cares? Oh so you lost a minute of your time...what were you going to do otherwise, write a thesis on the effects of drinking too much Starbucks? Binge-watch an entire season of The Walking Dead? Backpack across

Nobody cares

I don't even care about female Van Helsing, it's going to suck be it guy or girl in the role.
