Kevin Costner goes all Liam Neeson in the trailer for McG's 3 Days To Kill

Dec. 18, 2013by:

It's been a while since we've seen Kevin Costner in action and if the trailer for 3 DAYS TO KILL is any indication he may well be giving ol' Liam Neeson a run for his money. The McG directed high-concept actioner is written by Luc Besson and feels a lot like CRANK meets TAKEN, which is kind of awesome. It's chock full of cheesy lines, mostly delivered by the beautiful Amber Heard, and has plenty of bad ass action from Costner who looks right at home laying the smackdown on his adversaries. It's not high art and there won't be any golden statues for this, but it looks like a hell of a lot of fun.

Take a look:

Here's the synopsis:

A dying Secret Service Agent trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter is offered an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment.

It feels like we haven't seen Costner much in the last decade, but he's actually put out almost a film a year, although many of them kind of faded into the distance, which is a shame as he's such a terrific presence. Thankfully, the actor is having a bit of a resurgence, appearing this year in MAN OF STEEL and next month in JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT with Ivan Reitman's DRAFT DAY following on the heels of 3 DAYS TO KILL. That's a lot of Costner for 2014 and that's just the first four months. As a big fan of the actor, I'm pleased to see him taking on more projects and welcome him back to the big screen.

3 DAYS TO KILL, starring Kevin Costner, Amber Heard, Hailee Steinfeld, and Connie Nielsen, hits theaters on February 21, 2014.

Seeing Costner like this makes me think he could pull off Sam Fisher in a Splinter Cell movie.

Costner has long been one of my favorites

Why? because he's not afraid to take chances. Granted, they don't always pan out (Postman), and are sometimes entertaining in a so bad it's awesome/beer, pizza and good friends kind of way (Waterworld) but when it hits, it can be something truly cool (Mr. Brooks). Also, people tend to forget just how many great movies the guy has been in. No Way Out, Bull Durham, Dances With Wolves, Silverado, The Untouchables, Open Range, Field Of Dreams...and that's just off the top of my head. I love that

Bad ass to me :) I hope it'll be R. I love when Luc besson writes R films. they just seem to flow better. Unless its the fifth element. That movie is always amazing.

surprisingly "Taken" was PG-13 but it was hard to notice (espcially that torture scene), I'm sure this'll follow the same model.

i love me some Costner and he fits this role well. but, hot as she is, Heard looks ridiculous. if i saw that woman walking down the street my first thought would be SPY (well my first reaction would be HOTTIE, followed by COSPLAY BLACK WIDOW, then SPY). probably not the reaction you want when youre...well, a spy.

This movie looks like alot of fun. Glad to see Costner back in more films where he belongs. I hope to see more of his Jonathan Kent in flashbacks in the upcoming Batman vs Superman considering he was one of the very many best parts of Man of Steel.

This looks pretty good. I really hope it turns out to be. I miss Costner in action! I like him as a bad guy too. I'd love to see a Mr. Brooks 2.

It actually looks pretty good. I think McG is still maybe capable of making good movies but I do kinda agree with Desh that Amber Heard's appearance makes it a little too over-the-top when a thriller like this should be less stylised. I do want to see Hailee Steinfeld in more films and I hope her part isn't just "the daughter", that she has something to do in the film. Also looking forward to seeing Costner in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

WTF? So the most generic looking movie ever that has Kevin Costner literally just copying Liam Neeson move for move in a movie DIRECTED BY MCG is sitting at 100%? Sometimes I just don't know with this site.

You are absolutely right. Everyone should have YOUR exact tastes. Imagine it! A world where everyone thinks the same, acts the same, sees the same exact movies! My God, it's brillant! What an exciting world it would be!

God forbid I want good movies to be made, not just the same fucking rehash of Taken over and over and over again. And yea, I completely agree. The world would be a hell of a lot more exciting if crappy McG movies were never made and instead that studio money went towards projects that have at least some shred of originality to them. Although I'm not sure why I'm bothering with you...the type of person who would defend some crap like this isn't exactly someone who's opinion I care about. Also,

You guys are correct. I do apologize if I came off rude. I suppose I was just at a lack of words and just couldn't provide an arguement. In all honesty I've grown tired of people complaining about everything. It's Hollywood. Nothing is original and to sit around moaning and crying about how people just have bad taste is pretty wasteful in my opinion. Which is my opinion, just like your opinion is well, you get it. So in a nut shell, sorry for being sarcastic. God forbid people have a
