Kevin Costner may become a drug mule for Guillermo Del Toro in Midnight Delivery

07.15.2013

Kevin Costner has been in and out of the limelight throughout his career, but has remained consistent in work, putting out almost a film per year since he emerged on the scene in the early '80's. Now, however, it seems that he's primed to flood cinema's the world over with a number of high-profile projects on the way, including MIDNIGHT DELIVERY from producer Guillermo Del Toro, which would find the Oscar and Emmy award winning actor as "a father who becomes a drug mule to save his son." The script is by Neill Cross from an idea by Del Toro and sounds consistent with the type of role that would attract the seasoned actor.

Costner recently played Jonathan Kent in MAN OF STEEL, bringing an emotional performance to the superhero epic, and will be seen in a number of fatherly roles in the next year, including JACK RYAN with Chris Pine, where he plays a veteran CIA agent/mentor to the titular character, THREE DAYS TO  KILL from writer Luc Besson and director McG, where he plays a dying Secret Service Agent trying to reconnect with his daughter while taking an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for "one last mission," Ivan Reitman's DRAFT DAY, where he plays the GM of a football team trying to secure the number one pick, and BLACK AND WHITE for director Mike Binder, where he plays a grieving widower drawn into a custody battle over his daughter.

So, if you left MAN OF STEEL thinking that Costner should play a dad in every movie, well...someone heard you. Because Costner seems to be THE father figure role for most casting agents these days. And, I personally don't see a problem with that at all. I'm happy to see Costner back in the saddle again as he's always been one of my favorite actors who brings a great level of gravitas to his performances. Keep 'em comin' I say.

MIDNIGHT DELIVERY is currently in development, so no release date is set. Costner will next be seen on the big screen in JACK RYAN, out on December 25, 2013.

honestly

I would love to see him in a sequel to Mr. Brooks, he was very unnerving as a psychopath killer who also happened to be on the PTA board.

He blindsided me in Man of Steel. I've always liked the guy, even if some of his roles were down-right laughable to watch.

3000 Miles to Graceland is a guilty pleasure of mine simply because, while everyone else was phoning it in, Costner decided for once in his life he was going to chew scenery like his life depended on it.

The man's gotten a whole lot of shit for Waterworld and The Postman but very few actors bring as much charisma to the table as Mr. Costner. He may not be not one of the best actors in the world but I'm always glad to see him in movies.
And Waterworld is a guilty pleasure, whatever the fuck anyone says.

That's funny, I never thought I'd say this but my first thought after seeing the credits roll on Man of Steel was "I could've used more Costner." This isn't quite what I had in mind, but sure, I'll take it. If his performance wasn't the best in MoS, it's only because Russel Crowe completely owned the more prominent role of Jor El. And I completely agree with anomaly7. I think I'd most like to see him direct again.

Extra Tidbit

The role I want to see Costner in most, is director. Dances with Wolves is such a beautiful film. Open Range was a mighty fine western. Heck, I even enjoyed the Postman for what it was. Really hoping Costner finds something that inspires him to get behind the camera again.

Costner Was The Highlight of Man Of Steel

He really owned the film. I am looking forward to anything he has coming down the pike. Shout Out to Open Range. One of the best Westerns ever made and it was made by Costner. Hope he makes another one.

Everytime I see Kevin Costner I think of baseball films and my mind also goes back to Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad when he said how he convinced an old lady that he was Kevin Costner.

Costner is one of the best still working today and proved that he can still bring it with his powerhouse peformance in Man of Steel.

The concept though does sound like the movie Snitch.

Extra tidbit: I want to see Costner tackles the role of Conspiracy Theorist, like Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theories or surveillance guru Gene Hackman in The Conversation or Enemy of the State.
