Kevin Feige confirms sequels for Captain America and Thor, discusses other possible projects

04.19.2011

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has laid out his definite plans for what is coming after THE AVENGERS. Do you want a sequel to CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER? Do you want a sequel to THOR? Wait, you haven't seen either yet, how would you know? Regardless of this fact, they are coming.

IGN got an exclusive preview of Feige's interview in the Disney Fan Club magazine, D23. He talks about the Marvel cinematic universe as well as his hopes for what's to come. Feige also let's us know that the CAP sequel will take place in the modern world. Fun times. Check out his quotes from the magazine below:

"X-Men was the dawn of the new Marvel cinematic age. Iron Man was the dawn of the Marvel Studios age and the establishment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the beginning of that continuity. The Avengers is the next big step. Once all these characters come together, it's the culmination of all that has come before. It launches a new era and a new time in the history of our films. Not only will it be the first film that our new home studio, Disney, will be distributing, but it will also renew each of these characters and launch them into their own franchises, starting with the second film to be released by Disney, Iron Man 3."

"Thor will go off into a new adventure, and Captain America will continue to explore the modern world in another film of his own. We hope that holds true for the characters appearing in that film — Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the spy organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. —all of whom are more than worthy and capable of carrying their own films. And, we've got a lot of other characters we're prepping and getting ready for film debuts: the world of martial arts, these great cosmic space fantasies, Dr. Strange, and the magic side of the Marvel Universe. There are many, many stories to be mined."

Well?

There are many, many stories to be mined for movies......but how come studios rarely get past the 'origin' before they nosedive it into the ground before they have to reboot?

Thor being a very good surprise (even though, like most Marvel Studios Film, the final battle is a bit anticlimactic), I hope the film's a hit and gets a sequel!

NB: stay for the end credits if you want a first look at a very important item from Captain America...
I'd like a ROM movie someday

This sounds cool, but I am getting a bit worn out with all the superhero movies. As long as they keep making quality films I won't complain though. I wonder if a sequel to The Incredible Hulk will ever happen (with or without Ruffalo).

Must see Iron Fist and they must stay true to that cool costume for at least part of the film. Love a possible Defenders idea down the line. (Dr. Strange,Namor,Hulk,Silver Surfer)

Thor is going to hit big (look at what the critics are saying) so that sequel gets an instant fast track.

Can they use the Winter Soldier angle so fast in Cap 2? Having too many people skip ahead in time may be too much for general audiences to swallow. Cap out of time is unique. Cap, Red Skull, Bucky, maybe

The Iron Fist origin story is a bit too complicated. I'd rather they did a Master of Kung Fu movie and then introduced Iron Fist in the sequel.

They can't use Silver Surfer just yet because they sold the rights to Fox. Maybe when the rights revert to Marvel they will have a "cosmic space fantasy" with the Silver Surfer.

There is also supposed to be a Luke Cage: Power Man (Hero For Hire) movie.

They better come up with good Daredevil and The Punisher movies.

Marvel Studios only owns The Punisher, who hasn't really been properly captured on screen yet. Daredevil belongs to Fox, so Marvel won't have much say in that (though hopefully David Slade can make a good film.)

Excited for all of this. Can't wait to see Thor and Captain America and all of the sequels and new superheros that are going to have their own films in the future.

I agree with the tidbit. Get Patrick Dempsey to play Doctor Strange and you have my ass in a seat opening weekend.

Widow and Hawkeye should just be the stars of the SHIELD movie.

They could have them become a couple (like they once were in the comics) and do Black Widow & Hawkeye Undercover Blues-kind of movie... Fun & explosive !
Just a thought
