Kevin Feige tells us which Avengers are assembling

Jan. 27, 2010by:

I've been saying for a while now that orchestrating THE AVENGERS movie is going to be a nearly impossible task, and even with the film coming together, I still maintain that to be true. One of the men directly responsible for this feat is Kevin Feige, who recently talked to SFX Magazine about the upcoming film, and who the main players are for sure.

"…it's three people, four including Hulk , five including Nick Fury - who you have seen before in other movies, coming together for the very first time."

The other three of course being Thor, Captain American and Iron Man. This does confirm however that Bruce Banner will make an appearance, though whether than means Ed Norton is unclear as of yet. Lord knows they’ll probably try to reboot Hulk another time before this thing comes out. And hooray, we’re getting Samuel L, I guess. I don’t think this rules OUT other Avengers like Hawkeye, Ant-Man and The Wasp, but just that they won’t be getting their own features.

Feige also talks about Thor, and how exactly a Norse god fits into this somewhat scientific and logical universe.

"We’re doing the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby/Walt Simonson/J Michael Straczynski Thor. We’re not doing the blow the dust of the old Norse book in your library Thor. And in the Thor of the Marvel universe there’s a race called The Asgardians, and we’re linked through this tree of life that we’re unaware of. Its real science, but we don’t know about it yet. The Thor movie is about teaching people that."

Asgardians? Tree of Life? Sure, whatever, just make it non-religious so it fits. I don’t know, I just have a bad feeling about this amalgam of superheroes all crammed into one film…

Extra Tidbit: I'd just stick with those five. Any more is going to be pushing an already overcrowded cast.

Cautious

Oh boy I want to love this movie, and I hope it comes out and blows our socks off...but I can't help but feel that the promise of all these massive characters playing second fiddle to each other might dilute what makes the individual movies so great. Whose movie is this? Which character are we going to get involved in? Captain America? But he has his own movie. Thor? etc. Are we gonna get little itsy bitsy pieces of character for each one? Is it just going to be balls to the wall action? And

Things like the Avengers work in comics because of the linked serial nature they have on a monthly basis. In animated movies they usually focus on one of the lesser entities of the group, perhaps this will be Nick Fury's movie?

I'm cautiously optimistic...

If they can do a decent Avengers animated film that's only 60 minutes long, they can surely do a 2 hr live-action movie. Anyone who says otherwise is an idiot and has limited ideas of how to make a film with more than 2 main characters in it. Or what about the Justice League Unlimited show? I swear, it's like animated/comic book writers are geniuses, and script writers and movie producers are retarded.

Crammed?

Every time someone on this site posts something about Avengers there's this negativity.

Again: there will be no cramming, all origins have been dealt with in the heroes own movies. Some have even interacted before the Avengers Movie.

JoBlo: Not a site of True Believers?

I hope they add...

....Hawkeye & The Wasp to that list as well. Then you've got The Avengers.

Ant-Man

Are we saying the Ant-Man feature that was under Edgar Wright is no longer happening? Or just not before the Avengers movie?

The Tree of Life, known in Norse mythology as Yggdrasil is part of actual.... Norse mythology. So uh, Fiege is contradicting himself.

Sounds good, so far...

I think having Capt. Hulk, Thor, Nick Fury and Iron Man in the first Avengers film is fine, that way they can just go right in fighting the bad guy and building a relationship with eachother and coming together as a team and maybe inroduce a new addition to the team.

I wonder if Black Widow will make an appearance in this? I'd like to see them bring Black Panther to life.

Extra Tidbit

Did you forget about a little film franchise called X-Men, Paul? It's been done before. Breath. Relax, especially since Hulk is more likely to be a "villain" than an actual member.

Nice!

It sounds like they're getting it right on this one... Cap, Shellhead and Thor are the big three in The Avengers much like Supes, Bats and WW in the JLA... I know it's way too early, but I'm starting to get excited about this...

Excited as hell for this, as well as all the other Marvel Studios movies coming out the next few summers.

The only other character

that i could think of that wouldn't be a bad fit would be Scarlet Witch. But that would also mean Quicksilver probably and if they really want a female hero they'd probably jsut tossing Scar'Jo as Black Widow
