Kevin Smith talks about the premise of Mallrats 2

10.09.2015

I know you're dying inside to know what MALLRATS 2/MALLBRATS is about. How can Kevin Smith go back to that well within the View Askewniverse after all these years? What would make sense? What type of middle-aged people hang out at the mall these days? Isn't this all a little sad?

Kevin Smith revealed some details at New York Comic-Con as he took the stage to promote COMIC BOOK MEN and its coming fifth season.

Brodie will once again be at the heart of the story, this time dealing in some sort of "Save the Clock Tower" moment in order to save a mall. His plan is to organize a comic convention that would help raise the money to keep the dying breed alive for a little longer. The problem is that he didn't account for the terrorists who are going to burst in, interrupting the proceedings and forcing Brodie to kick some ass and ultimately save the day.

Please tell me this is a joke. Please tell me Kevin Smith is not once again trolling us all. Please tell me that this is not a movie that is happening.

Smith's films continue to get wilder and stranger the deeper into his career he gets, and that isn't necessarily a good thing. There was once a point where I was a big Kevin Smith fan and defender, and I looked forward to what he had to say next. Those days are long gone, and this plan for MALLRATS 2, if legit, may be a sign they're never coming back.

Sounds cool. And it's true, he has been talking about it forever. With the word "brats" in the title, I wonder if it will have a Toy Soldiers flare to it. A bunch of punk kids normally terrorize the mall and when real terrorists show up, Brody has to Lou Gossett it up to save the day. Either way, I like seeing characters get older and what they're up to.

the idea is more of a tribute.....

he had this idea in a joking manner when he finished up the first mallrats flick and jim jacks asked him for an idea for a sequel, this was it. smith has stated he wished he would have kept in contact with jacks before he passed, so hes going back to the well as a tribute to that man. it may not sound like the best idea in the world but im still a smith fan and ill watch this.

You use films that were successful and "good" to sell your turd in a... unoriginality.

I might be willing to give the idea a shot if the terrorists are played by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Thay sounds like a shitty Paul Blart sequel. It will obviously be better than any blart flick... but still, the first was just a funny day at the mall, why we need fucking terrorists? ?!

If I Remember Correctly...

... Die Hard in a mall was one of the original ideas Smith had for the film. If not that, then I believe it was the comic book sequel to Mallrats that he wrote that had the Die Hard theme. Either way, should be enjoyable.

Jesse Donnelly....

tells us how you really feel. As for me its too early to judge anything. Even if this is the premise, lets not shit all over it just yet. Besides aren't we just suppose to report the news here?

It's not the premise with his movies that are important, its good to see Lee back, if its has the same humor as the first, I'm in

THIS IS PERFECT

K.Smith has been talking about the sequel since the first movie was released... In the commentary on the DVD he even mentions "Mallrats 2 would be Die Hard in a mall" ... As long as its nothing like Paul Blart, I'm TOTALLY down for this story.
