Kick Ass 2 going Balls to the Wall in 2012

UPDATE - KICK-ASS star Christopher Mintz-Plasse posted an update on Twitter on the sequel news saying "Don't believe what you are hearing about Kick-Ass 2 guys" adding that any sequel to the movie is "not confirmed."

It's been the subject of much speculation whether KICK-ASS has performed well enough for a sequel to be greenlighted. Worldwide the film has made $72M thus far, but its numbers are dropping sharply. With a production budget of $30M, it would seem to be profitable, but this movie had more press than almost anything I’ve seen this year besides IRON MAN 2, so I have to imagine the marketing budget was pretty steep.

But it appears the decision has been made, and KICK-ASS 2: BALLS TO THE WALL has gotten the go-ahead. It’s based on a comic that Mark Millar hasn’t even published yet, but it will supposedly be out relatively soon and the movie will gear up for 2011 production and a 2012 release.

Plot details are non-existent as of yet, as the book hasn’t even been written yet, but it’s a fair assumption to say Red Mist will be a pretty major villain, and Kick-Ass and Hit Girl will likely team up to fight (err, straight up murder) more criminals. Also I’d expect some new costumed powerless heroes to join the fray.

Extra Tidbit: I was one of the (very) few around here who wasn't a huge fan of the movie, but even I'd be down for a sequel.
