Sorry, I just really wanted to write that headline. But yes, according to a recent interview on Radio 5 in the UK, Mark Millar himself has said that KICK-ASS 2 has been given the greenlight due to solid DVD sales. People are still buying DVDs? Who knew?

Anyway, the film will reassemble all the not-dead members of the cast who include (possible spoilers) Aaron Johnson (currently in NOWHERE BOY), Chloe Moretz (currently in LET ME IN), Chris Mintz-Plasse (currently in FRIGHT NIGHT) along with director Matthew Vaughn (currently working on X-MEN: FIRST CLASS). But all of these projects look to wrap fairly soon, so I wouldn't expect us to have to wait eons for the sequel.

The next film, subtitled BALLS TO THE WALL was rumored ever since Millar announced he was writing it, but this is the first real official confirmation we've had the film will be made. As for what to expect, here's a few plot details concerning the revenge of Red Mist. Spoilers ahoy.

This is a guy who has had his entire family killed by Hit Girl. He heads off and develops his martial arts skills. He learns how to become a better villain. That type of thing. He is going to come back and wreck unholy vengeance on our team. But in reality, he just comes back and gets stoned, and he spends a lot of money. He can't do anything, so he hires this bad ass girl from Russia, she comes into the story, and her plan is to kill Hit Girl. Red Mist becomes like Charles Manson. He goes on-line and influences a bunch of young villains to go against Kick-Ass and Hit Girl. The whole thing ends up as a big gang fight like you'd see in The Warriors. There is going to be a big gang fight in the middle of Times Square between all of these costumed heroes. And at the head will be the Red Mist and Hit Girl.

Sounds great to me, and I'm glad to hear this is actually going to work out.

Sounds good to me...but I wish they would get rid of Christopher Mintz-Plasse. I'm sorry that kid annoys the hell outta me.

Sounds like a great sequel to me. I like how it's unconventional, like the villain getting revenge in an unconventional way. Instead of becoming bad ass, he does what most rich gangsters would do: hire out thugs. Only, his thugs are costumed gang members.

As much as I loved that movie and want to see a sequel.
I'm betting that this is just Mark Millar blowing it out his ass.

Awesome news. I blind bought this on blu-ray thanks to the great reviews, and really enjoyed it. I fully expect Cage to have a cameo in a flashback scene. Also, does anyone know if the Black Guy who ends up taking care of Hit Girl also becomes a costumed hero? I haven't read the comic.

I sorta worry Hit Girl's gonna usurp Kick-Ass, but then, he's in semi-retirement already, while she's maybe still got a bone to pick. But I found myself laughing uncomfortably so much at this movie, I look forward to what a sequel can deliver.

Kick Ass was a great movie and a great ride. Just a fun movie, plain and simple. Hit Girl is easily one of the best characters of the last 5 years, so I like the idesa that she is more of the main character this time around.

Chloe was outstanding in the movie, as was Cage. But, Kick-Ass was not a great movie. The film had an unclear message and I had no idea what the film was saying. It did not convey any idea coherently.

I agree on all counts, RyFranzese24. I didn't think the comic was that good either but it least it stuck to its basic idea: what would Superheroes be like in a realistic setting? The movie went happy ending with it and lost its point.
The comedy wasn't that good, the action wasn't that good and the only major bright spot was Moretz.

I love Kick-Ass, and I'm really looking forward to it's sequel, but I gotta admit I could do without Chris Mintz-Plasse.

I just caught this on blu-ray. It was a very fun movie and worthy of a sequel. The only thing that bothered me with the movie was how they tried a little too hard to be funny with the Big Daddy and Hit Girl relationship. Other than that thought this movie was a blast. Also loved the use of the score from Fistful of Dollars in there too.

Kick-Ass came outta nowhere

This movie was really a pleasant surprise to me, and I was shocked as to how much depth these characters had. The trailers gave it a somewhat campy, violent vibe.. but the finished product was fantastic. After all the positive word of mouth I finally caught it on DVD and it blew me away. Easily one of the most underrated movies of the past 3 years.

I dunno if this is still legit...
Or just in the comics, but I heard in part 2 the Red Mist changes his name to The MF'er. If so, that makes this idea all kings of awesome! Kick Ass was one of the best experiences I've had in theaters in a while (I haven't seen The Expendables yet, leave me alone). Bring on part 2.

Wow, it sounds like they took what was originally the anti-superhero movie and are turning it in to a superhero movie. Sad.

Boring why?
Kick Ass was so boring. It sucked until the last 15 minutes of the film. Take away Hit Girl and this movie was just plain BALLZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!! Don't make another one. Please. Make something cooler, like say a Carnage movie! Dye Mathew Lillard head red and you have your Cletus Kasady.
