Kirk and crew kick some ass in the latest Star Trek Into Darkness trailer!

03.09.2013by:

I'm telling you guys that there is absolutely no question that STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS is my most-anticipated movie of this entire year. I've been watching watching Picard and Kirk seek out new lifeforms and lay down some Federation ass-kicking since I was 5 years old and plan to do so till my last breath. That being said, what J.J. Abrams has done with Star Trek by bringing it into the new generation makes me admire and respect him immensely because most Trek fans know that it was a franchise that was dying out before the 2009 reboot. I and many others have been reading about footage and screenings that have been held in the last week and everyone can't stop talking about the incredible ride we're in for come May 17th.

With all that existing excitement comes yet another awesome part of the film's epic marketing campaign as the latest trailer has been unleashed on the net which you can check out in the video embed below. This trailer has been exclusively placed in front of screenings for Sam Raimi's OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL so as you can imagine, the trailer has a bit more of a "kid friendly" vibe to it with some comedy bits thrown in. In a couple of week's however we'll see the release of the final theatrical trailer which is promised to be for more mature audiences in front of G.I. JOE: RETALIATION so stay tuned around then when the trailer comes online. For now, enjoy the shit out of the new footage below as well as some screencaps.

Extra Tidbit: I have immense faith in Abrams to deliver a fantastic STAR WARS movie. He can take all the time he needs, I couldn't care less if he made the 2015 deadline date.

Gene's vision was about exploring the galaxy, finding man's place in the galaxy, its destiny and providing social commentary. JJ's movies are not trek at all, they are just action scifi movies. JJ and co. want all the cash value of the name without providing what that name is. i am not saying that his films are bad films, but they are not star trek films. period.
by his OWN admission JJ wasnt a trek fan so instead of actually trying to do something in continuity he just said fuck it, ill make

Its like the adam west batman is not the real batman (i do love it though). I dont get why people get angry at original trek fans for saying the JJ movies are not trek - the are NOT it is a FUCKING FACT!!! they admit it "this is not your fathers trek" so i think original trek fans have a RIGHT to say its not trek, cause its not. You can enjoy the films for their entertainment value and thats it, but its not trek.

So true. I guess this is the price trek fans need to pay for the franchise being revived.

Yes! I dont know why i am getting thumbs down? well actually i do, its because most of the people on here are fucking stupid kids - at no point did i say the movies were bad, just that they dont reflect what star trek is supposed to be. i am stating a FACT, but i guess you get thumbs down for stating facts that people dont want to hear. oh and just for the record, i didnt like JJ's trek film - it didnt make any sense and it was kind of boring - sorry to all the fans, but i require actual story

The teaser gives the film an entirely new feeling. Prior teasers have solely focused on John Harrison, whereas this teaser makes the film look more like a "Star Trek" film.

I agree completely. The previous trailers were making the film almost look to dark. This trailer lightened the tone just enough.

Looks like an awesome movie. My only questions is now that Abrams made Star Trek more like Star Wars, will he make Star Wars more like Star Trek?

Kirk's cut.

Anyone else notice that cut on Kirk's cheek is in the shape of the Starfleet insignia?

I hate to be "that guy," but this is looking about as far from Roddenberry's vision as you can get. Not to say that it doesn't look fun, it's just not Trek.

I'm curious whay you say that. Why do you believe this "about as far from Roddenberry's vision as you can get"?

Like j-man said, the central idea of Trek was exploration. It was about peace and diplomacy, with the Earth completely united in a socialist utopia. Basically, it was an idealized vision of what we might become if we could only set aside our differences, and simply work towards the advancement of mankind. It had its share of action and adventure, as well, but it was always more than that. It had a point, a purpose. And most importantly, it was smart.

Abrams's Trek is not. It's flashy, it's fun, it's some of the most exciting sci-fi in a good long while, but it's also dumb as a stump. There are no morals being imparted, no lessons for humanity. It doesn't even stop to explain how or why anything is happening (What's Red Matter? How does it work? Why does Nero's bridge look like Dagobah? Why did Spock strand Kirk on an ice planet instead of putting him in the brig? etc.). Granted, the original series was written by people like Richard Matheson and Harlan Ellison, while the new ones are done by the Transformers guys, so it's understandable that there would be a drop in quality. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't at least make an effort.

Now, I understand why they've made most of their changes. They wanted a hot young crew, with plenty of explosions and space battles, in order to connect with a new (young) audience. It's very similar to what Marvel did with their Ultimate Universe. And from the box office figures, they've certainly succeeded. But beyond all the flashiness, all the gunfights and skydiving and giant CGI aliens, it's just... hollow. Soulless. Pure popcorn entertainment, and nothing more. Maybe this new movie will prove me wrong, but so far all I see is more action. And that's just not what Star Trek was about.

So is this the Trailer for the new STAR WARS movie everyone is talking about?

One scene is pretty much an exact copy of the millenium Falcon flight scene from ROTJ....

not star trek

yeah, i'm in the "this is not star trek" camp on this. it looks like a helluva fun movie, i guess. lots of stuff blows up and whatnot, but it just doesn't feel like a trek movie. also, it feels an awful lot like the last "star trek" movie: madman on the loose, kirk is after him, the people in charge are wary of kirk, but he wins them over, simon pegg does a few funny things, credits. where's the exploring? where's the intellectualism? the tos films dealt with some bigger issues, like

Looks DOPE. One of the best things about these new Star Trek films is Chris Pine as Kirk. Such a great performance he put on the first film. A true movie star.

If only they'd show us more Zoey Saldana wearing tight oufits instead of may-or-may-not-khan in the trailers, the movie will sell itself.

Extra Tidbit

Abrams can make the 2015 release date. The film already has a story, the main key players are back, and he'd have over a year to shoot the thing. Now, if Disney decides to release this during the Holiday season then he has plenty of room to take his time.

That was really impressive, it looks like it will be even more kinetic, entertaining and action-packed than the first. Before watching Star Trek '09, I knew nothing about the franchise, but I really liked the film. Even though it does seem like too much power for one man, I'm really stoked for Abrams' Star Wars VII as well.

good but not trek

As someone wrote it before me, while not being Roddenberry's STAR TREK, J.J.'s STAR TREK is a pretty good reinvention of the franchise. And STID looks awesome (even more so when, like me, you've seen over 40' of it a few days ago!!).

Can't wait

It is really hard not to watch this trailer, but I don't want to see too much in advance.
The last trailer got me pretty already psyched anyway...

To those saying it doesn't resemble Ster Trek, I say good. I always thought Star Trek was a bit of a bore. Finally they're worth watching, thanks to Abrams.
