Kirsten Dunst says some nice things about the Spider-Man reboot

Nov. 16, 2010by: Niki Stephens

As time goes by it gets hard to come up with reasons to like Kirsten Dunst. In my teenybop days, I loved her. I even ended up doing a project over DROP DEAD GORGEOUS in one of my theater classes because the movie was f*cking hilarious. But now every time I see her I feel annoyed.

When there were rumors that Dunst may not been in Spidey 4, a calm sense of relief rushed over me. Then the project was completely scrapped and out of the ashes a reboot arose. Is Dunst upset that she won't get to continue her days as Mary Jane? Not really.

While promoting her next film ALL GOOD THINGS, Dunst spoke with Screen Junkies about the end of Raimi's franchise and Marc Webb's reboot, "I feel like it was time, you know. Sometimes they always want to push things for money reasons or whatever and it just didnt come together the way they probably had wanted or envisioned. I like Andrew Garfield so much as an actor and Emma Stone so I think theyll be great in the new version.

No matter what the fans may think of it, Dunst still has love for the trilogy, I felt like what we had during those films was so special, like me and Tobey and Sam. It was such a unique experience and also because it was these independent minds and actors and youre making this huge film. Its great that all these kids are such huge fans and to be a part of a movie like that is very special, especially a good franchise. So to end on 3 I think is the perfect way to leave it.

Will she go see the new Spidey film when it comes out? Of course Im going to see the movie. Of course.

I have nothing against dunst...
It must be difficult to work with someone you can't stand when you're supposed to look like you love him (her and tobey where so hating each other they couldn't even be in the same room for the press conferences!).
All this to say she must be happy not having to do another Spidey

Spidey 4!!

Spidey 1 and 2 were great. Just because 3 was generally garbage (although I though it was better than most people say), there was no reason to can it all for a reboot. Learn from your damn mistakes and make the 4th amazing instead of trashing it all like it never happened.

People are still forgetting that Franco was killed off and Maguire and Dunst weren't even likely to return, not to mention Raimi kept ballooning the budget. Of course a reboot was inevitable.

Spider Man 4 > Reboot.

I loved the original trilogy and Spider Man 2 still stands as one of the greatest (if not greatest) comic book movie of all time.

Right, it's better to have the Vulture and Vultress as well as Peter and Mary Jane as parents than restart the series and fix the mistakes. That makes sense.

I've never had a problem with Dunst as Mary Jane. The problem was just the script and not giving her anything to work with. I still like Spiderman's 1 and 2 but I'm excited for the reboot. With that cast and crew, it's at least worth a look.

Thanks Dunst

There, Dunst herself says this is a good move and it was time for Raimi's movies to stop. Maybe now the bitching will stop. I'm happy for this reboot, I'm excited, and I'm glad she agrees it was time for a restart. Raimi's movies were hits but never that good.

For a while I started to believe the Dunst hate, but when I re-watched the Spiderman trilogy I realized that she actually did a good job as MJ. She seemed bored in 3, but that was more because her character really didn't have anything different to do from the first 2 movies. I'd still prefer a spiderman 4 over a reboot.

Are you kidding? She looks like Skeletor from the old Dolph Lundren Masters of the Universe film in that still above ... just with breasts.

I never understood the Kirsten Dunst hate

she's a solid actress and does the best she can with a severely underwritten character in the Spider-Man movies.

I completely agree. I can tolerate MJ being the "damsel in distress" but does she have to be saved 2 or 3 times per film? And how can an actress be likeable when her character keep complaining about her relationship status?

She got all the blame but her character made no sense.

Disagree...

Ending it on 3 was the perfect way to go? For real? With absolutely no closure to the characters? They NEEDED one more Spider-Man just to resolve whether or not Peter proposed to Mary Jane or not, and how Aunt May was doing in her new crappy apartment or whether or not she (or Robbie for that matter) knows Peter is Spider-Man. You'd think so with all those weird looks they kept giving him in Spider-Man 2 and 3. Would have been perfect to do one last Raimi Spider-Man, end the series on a much

Would have been perfect to do one last Raimi Spider-Man, end the series on a much higher note and resolve these unanswered questions. Maybe end it with Spider-Man swinging with Mary Jane in her wedding dress (comic homage), into the sunset, with v.o. narration.
