KITT Xtreme Makeover

12.17.2007

For reasons unknown, we haven't really been tracking the development of NBC's upcoming TV movie revamp KNIGHT RIDER. So for those of you curious of what's going on on that front, here's the dealio. Firstly, as can be seen below, KITT has reincarnated as a Shelby GT500KR Mustang. Secondly, Will Arnett has been cast as the voice of KITT, which should give you a right good tickle. Thirdly, here's a little plot breakdown:

Sarah Graiman (Russo) is a 24-year-old Ph.D. candidate at Stanford University, following in her genius father Charles’ (Davison) footsteps. But when men attempt to abduct her, Sarah receives a mysterious call from KITT warning her that he’s a creation of Charles, who also invented the first KITT 25 years ago—and that her father is in serious danger.

Sarah and KITT track down her best friend from childhood, Mike Tracer (Bruening), a 23-year-old ex-Army Ranger, whom Sarah hasn’t seen since he left home at 18. Having served in Iraq, Mike is now jaded and lost and initially resistant. Eventually he agrees to help Sarah and the two set out to discover who’s behind the attempt to procure KITT and find Charles.

Finally, The Hoff himself, David Hasselhoff, who was KITT's original companion, will be making a cameo as his original character. Doesn't get much better than that, folks. The film going to series depends largely on the viewership of this TV movie so make sure to tune in. It premieres February 17th on NBC. Let's get this straight..

Obviously, the Knight Rider 2000 is non-canon. (Pontiac is pretty much gone and can't design a newer version of Trans Am)
Devon died in that as well.

It seems somewhat ok, but after Team Knight Rider, I don't think that this would keep it fresh.

Also, Bumblebee was a newly designed Chevy Camaro, not Ford Mustang. Big difference.

I agree with Noms...

Wrong on all sorts of levels. No Trans Am? No Mr. Feeny as KITT? ...Count me out.

You know, it's crap like this that makes you want the writer's strike to last forever.

Mike Tracer?!

what kind of lame 80's action movie name is that?

Crimson Kahuna is dead on, shit like this only works if there's a shred of believability for my brain to latch onto.
And having two character named michael with ridiculous last names (Knight & Tracer) is a piss-poor start.

Why couldnt the hero's name be Eugene Phelpis? Or Leroy O'Toole?

Wow...

... I'm not sure how to take this, but a 23 year old ex-army ranger has a possible grand total of 6 years experience including boot camp (if his parents signed a waver when he was 17), and 24 year old PHD candidate sounds like she must have started college at age 16. That pushes my suspension of disbelief way far. Other than that, it's cool they are bringing the Hoffmeister in for a cameo, but would be better if it was a re-occuring role. And is that the same car as Bumblebee in Transformers?
