Kristen Stewart in talks to survive earthquake aftermath in Underwater

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

With the trying times of the TWILIGHT saga long behind her, actress Kristen Stewart has since become something of a bad girl among the young Hollywood elite in recent years. Relentlessly unpredictable, and known for being outspoken about a myriad of topics both social and political, Kristen Stewart, in my estimation, is a walking time bomb, a spitfire, and now she's gearing up to battle the elements using the power of science!

It's been reported today that K-Stew is in negotiations to star in UNDERWATER, a disaster-related adventure thriller for Twentieth Century Fox. Will Eubank, who co-wrote and directed 2014's THE SIGNAL is set to direct the film, which revolves around a team of underwater scientists who, after a devastating earthquake, are left with no choice but to go on a perilous journey for survival. If and when Stewart confirms her participation, she will be cast as the film's lead character, a weary crew member of the science division dealing with the fallout of the crisis. Production for the movie is expected to start in New Orleans as early as March of this year.

UNDERWATER would see Stewart in a considerably different role when compared to a number of the more indie-related parts she's chosen over the past few years. Sure she's starred in films like SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, but that was over four years ago already. I actually had the opportunity to interview Stewart alongside Jesse Eisenberg for Nima Nourizadeh and Max Landis' highly underrated AMERICAN ULTRA. It was an eye-opening afternoon to say the least, and I'll never forget the way Stewart's features lit up when we started talking about the possibilities of not-so-secret government agencies manipulating our world from the shadows.

If you're feeling like you could go for a little bit of the Stew, you can catch her in the ghostly mystery thriller PERSONAL SHOPPER, which is set for a March 10, 2017 release.
