Kung Fu Panda director to helm animated Noah's Ark from the animals' POV

Aug. 20, 2014by:

Academy Award-nominated director John Stevenson of KUNG FU PANDA fame will direct Unified Pictures first CG-animated feature, inspired by the story of Noah's Ark. The catch this time around is that tells the story from the point of view of the animals because of course it does. I suppose the Darren Aronofsky take on NOAH this year may not have satisfied everyone’s hunger for more "great flood" storytelling.

Here’s the synopsis:

The story follows an outcast aardvark by the name of Gilbert, who becomes the reluctant leader of a ragtag group of misfit animals that need to be led to the mighty ark before the impending flood. Along their journey, they band together to conquer unforeseen obstacles, and ultimately, Gilbert discovers within himself the inner strength and ingenuity to prove that in a world of “twos,” he was truly destined to be “the one.”

John Stevenson’s one and only feature KUNG FU PANDA is credit enough to show that the man has the talent to go ahead with this one. This story has a lot of threads in it that could easily be turned into an animated feature. I’m just not sure anyone needs to see it this way; I worked at a video store and I’m pretty sure I saw enough animated Bible stories on the shelf to know we’ve covered this ground and then some. The film is currently in pre-production and is set for completion in 2016.

Well I think I've blasphemed enough for one post; take it away Ricky:

The Pomp and Circumstance segment of Fantasia 2000 is one of my favourite tellings of Noah's Ark:

Sure seems to be a lot of religious propaganda coming out of Hollywood lately.

I seriously do not get the big deal about stuff like Noah and Exodus and this. I'm not religious at ALL but absolutely loved Noah. I looked at it as a fantasy film, much like Lord of the Rings, not a 'true story' or like it was preaching or anything.

Perpetuating an outlandish religious fable that makes 5 year old's skeptical of people telling them it really happened. Bring it on, I'm sure it will be more palatable for the masses than Aronofskys Noah.

Well, I don't think it could be worse than Aronofsky's version......unless they tried REALLY hard.

Personally my favorite part was the world's first vegan/ninja/serial killer. Crowe really knocked that out of the park.
