Kung Fu set photos

Sep. 17, 2009by: Niki Stephens

While looking over stories to deliver to the masses, I knew this was the one you guys would want to see. Photos from the set of KUNG FU KID!

Okay, so I'm sure this actually rates low on your list of "must sees" but it's got Jackie Chan...don't you like Jackie Chan? He's cool. Anyway, this is obviously a tough love training scene between Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) and Dre (Jaden Smith). I think the best thing about this movie so far is the fact that they changed the title from KARATE KID to KUNG FU KID.

This will be another heartfelt coming of age movie, that happens to be a remake of another heartfelt coming of age movie. Oh, and it has karate. For those of you looking forward to this, I hope they cause your heart to explode with happy.

Extra Tidbit: Fear does not exist in the Dojo! Oh yes it does sensei.

Please...

this looks bad. Chan havent done any good movie in America since...Rumble in the Bronx (even hes bitching about it) and that Smith-Kid is just annoying. And talk about remakes: there are just too many: for every good one, three of four bad one hit the screens or did you like: The Fog, Psycho, Pink Panther, Planet of the Apes, Rollerball, Time Machine, Godzilla and the Day the Earth stood still? And Im pretty sure Ive forgotten a dozen more of these suckers!

new re-make ideas.......

after 3 or 4 sequels, give 15 more years to see Capoeira kid, and then Taekwondo Kid, Muay Thai Kid, Judo Kid, Aikido Kid, Wrestling Kid, Boxing Kid, Mixed Martial Kid, Rock-Paper-Scissors Kid,..........Tired of Re-makes. They better have a good sound track though.....like Kanye West and Taylor Swift Duet where he keeps interrupting her.

That kid is weak

Phantom Menace had the same problem: a little kid in a lead role who can't act. In Kartate Kid Daniel was 15. It creates a whole different dynamic when the kid is a scrawny 11 year old. Jaden has all the physicality of Kristin Kreuk in the latest Streetfighter abomination. And how gross is it going to be if they play up romance angle that was a big part of the original movies. A remake I can live with but Will Smith and his brat are gonna sink this film.

that's your big gripe?

because the kid isn't Italian-american? That didnt even have any bearing on the movie.

and they are not "Daniel" and "miyagi"... did you read the article or did you just see colored faces and lose your shit?

and is this a waste of jackie Chan's time? because he's busy burning up the box office???? or is being in a will smith production the best thing to fall into his lap since rush hour?

Hypocrites!

I suppose you all hate The Departed, Fist Full of Dollars, The Thing, and Alien as well, along with any adaptation of a play, novel, or comic book ever made.

How can you not like a film you've never seen? What's hypocritical about your attitudes is that for some reason you're opposed just to the idea of a movie being remade or reimagined, when you most assuredly watch and maybe love many many movies like that. And also you probably watch a lot of movies that star the children of famous actors. So if you've ever jerked off to Angelina Jolie, but also hate the fact that Will Smith's son is getting parts in movies, you're a hypocrite (that's as sound

If you don't want to see this movie and wish it never existed, just ignore it and poof it's gone. Your hate is stupid.

Totally agree. Most of the cool movies everyone loves are remakes of older or foreign movies. And I'm sure the new Generation will dig this one. So WTF...This circle will never end.

One big difference: those were all done by great directors, and didn't look like shit.

And BTW, ALIEN was not a remake.

hey track100, you can't argue with hypocrites. see how they try and shape their arguements to fit their personal problems: pheonix pretends he doesnt understand your point although everyone else does, justinvsky has a personal vendetta against an 11 year old and Mut not only can tell what the movie is going to look like off of the production stills but also thinks only a renown director on the level of Scorcese can effectively remake the karate kid (which in it's day was considered a Rocky

its a movie, guys, and i am sure you are a little old for them to even care about your opinion. The youngsters out there are going to eat this up. deal with it.

I don't know why I'm even bothering to respond, but here goes:

I think we can all agree that the majority of remakes suck. They're usually done by producers trying to cash in on a "guaranteed" box-office hit, which typically results in a poorly thought-out and terribly derivative film. There are a few that rise above this petty money-grubbing, yes, like THE DEPARTED, A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS, and THE THING, but these are the exceptions, not the rule.

That being said, whenever a remake is announced, I assume the worst, and will continue to assume such until I am shown any evidence to the contrary. It's an uphill battle for my money, and one which they generally do not win.

THE KUNG FU KID has so far given me absolutely no reason to be interested, other than the presence of Jackie Chan. I realize that I am not the target audience, but that doesn't mean that I (or anyone else here) can't express an opinion.

My opinion? It looks like a lame kiddie remake of a cheesy-yet-fun 80's classic. Nothing more. Now tell me, am I being hypocritical?

Why why why why!!??

F this shit!! This is so fing bad!! A Karate Kid 4 would be so much better, bring back Daniel and Johnny, and make it all dark with Daniel battling depression and searching for Miagi's killer(since he's passed) that's when he finds Johnny to help. C'mon!! [link]

*sigh* It would be cool, if they had a twist that made Jackie into the one Dre Dre had to beat at the end, but couldn't.

i can't find myself getting too mad... after all, i'm not 12 years old.

But I did just show the original version to my neice and nephew and they were GLUED to the screen just like i was way back when. It still stands up.

ugh

The Karate Kid was an excellent film of its time. I'm upset they're remaking it...especially with Jaden Smith...geez. BUT...I'm even more pissed Will Smith wants to remake Oldboy. I guess the Smith's are really into remakes.

(Charlton Heston was way more believable as the last man on Earth)
