Lantern release & more

02.24.2009

Green Lantern THE DARK KNIGHT notwithstanding, Marvel is kicking DC's ass in terms of successful superhero movies and franchises. Needless to say, DC is putting a lot of faith in their upcoming GREEN LANTERN adaptation, hoping that what's generally agreed is a solid script by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green coupled with an extremely capable director - Martin Campbell - will launch at least an IRON MAN type franchise. In keeping with that, they've decided to release the film December 17th, 2010, boldly deciding to make this a holiday flick. Savvy. In another release date news, the final HARRY POTTER film, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2 will be released July 15th, 2011, SHERLOCK HOLMES has been pushed back to Christmas Day of this year, the CLASH OF THE TITANS remake under director Louis Leterrier has been given a March 26th, 2010 release, Christopher Nolan's INCEPTION will be released on July 16th, 2010, JONAH HEX is set for August 6th, 2010, and Zack Snyder's SUCKER PUNCH is set for October 8th, 2010.

Extra Tidbit: The first Green Latnern, Alan Scott, was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell in "All-American Comics" #16 in 1940.

DC has better cartoons but Marvel has better movies.

The problem is WB's control over DC, since they own them and all. Marvel studios doesn't have to fight with a partner studio when putting out a film cept Spiderman(Sony) for creative control. DC on the other hand has to listen to WB's and they consistantly make BIG mistakes! These old guys at WB are trying to put movies out that they have not one idea why and how they work in the Comics, Cartoons, or Movies; meaning each medium works in

These old guys at WB are trying to put movies out that they have not one idea why and how they work in the Comics, Cartoons, or Movies; meaning each medium works in its own right differently. WB just doesn't get it, thats why they need to give creative control to someone that does. Like Bruce Timm, I know he does cartoons but he knows the stories and can create an entire movie universe for DC and WB.

Lots to anticipate!

I'm a little surprised that WB moved Sherlock Holmes to Christmas (though maybe I shouldn't be given the successes of last year's Christmas releases). Glad to see INCEPTION has a release date (same day as THOR; I bet someone will blink and move to the July 4th weekend).

As for GL, last news I heard was that Ryan Gosling was going to be Hal Jordan. That may have changed. BTW, this isn't the first time a DC superhero has debuted in theaters at Christmastime. Superman did the same thing in 1978.

I can't wait for this movie. I hear they're starting casting in April. Who will play Hal Jordan, that is the question.

Hal Jordan

To me, Hal has a more iconic look than Kyle.

Actually he is, which is why fans were either going 'meh' or were in the uproar about DC's anal persistence to bring back Hal as GL. Same with Barry Allen as Flash.

Right on, Duke.

And I'd like to second the Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern campaign.

Rayner isn't the GL for this generation anymore. Geoff Johns has made Hal Jordan freaking awesome.

I'd rather see Kyle Rayner, since he is the Green Lantern for this generation.

I'm telling you, John Hamm as Green Lantern! Perfect Hal Jordan in my eyes.

marvel sure does have better characters imho .. but they're fking things up with crappy movies (i.e ghost rider, punisher, daredevil, etc).

some heads should roll over there

I like the date. "Summer blockbuster" is a bankable term, but I think there is a lot of money to be found by dropping big budget flicks in other seasons.

Clash Of The Titans (remake)

I'm very in favor and happy that the old 1981 "Clash Of The Titans" is being redone-this film is one a few I am for an updated version. Today with CGI this film should be a dream to work on.

Batman stands alone

I gotta say...sure DC has less material going for it in the film world, but I think Batman alone, as he is wont to do, is kicking a lot of the Marvels properties asses. A BILLION for the sequel alone as well as massive opinion that it was ROBBED in the Oscar arena. A comic book movie universally agreed about being robbed of Oscars. Batman could kick all their asses...natch.
