Taylor Lautner With TWILIGHT now being a bonafide international smash, there were rumors that the franchise's producers were looking to replace Taylor Lautner as the lycanthropic Jacob Black, who takes center stage in the sequel NEW MOON, with a more audience friendly "name" actor. Which sucked for tween fangirls pining away for more Lautner and, of course, for Lautner himself since he'd be out of a job. However, TWILIGHT mastermind Stephanie Meyer recently received confirmation from NEW MOON director Chris Weitz that Lautner will, in fact, be back. He mentioned: "I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer." And why is he back? "…it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon." So…good?

I'm glad taylor will play jacob for the next movie. He did a good job with what he was given in Twilight and with proper cgi he can pull off the role. Jacob grows in size, but he's still only 16 so having Taylor play him will work.

I've read the books and I have to say they are off the charts better then the first movie. But with better direction and more money these books could be great movies. The books themselves are alot like the Harry Potter series. I'm sure snobs and hater will disagree, but I've read them both and they are very similar in tone. Imagine if they had attempted to make Potter on a miniscule budget with a director more suited to small indie films. This should be a special effects loaded vampire/werewolf film. They are love stories with more action/fighting as they progress, but they aren't 30 Days of night type vampire movies. Anyone expecting that is bound for dissapointment. And if they don't give them more money for the next and bigger installments then it's all pointless because they'll suck no matter who's in them.

I have read the books and seen the movie and although I know the word was he was not a big enough "name", my concern has always been that he does not suit the part of what Jacob becomes in later books. In the first he is rather goofy and young but all that changes when he starts shape-shifting into a huge-ass wolf. I know he has been bulking up but honestly does he look like a alpha werewolf to...

Generally, it sucks ass to see an actor get replaced for a sequel because he's not a big enough name (Harkens back to Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent in Batman '89)

Otherwise, it's whatever. Never saw Twilight. Don't care to.

Never read the books. Got dragged to the movie by my lady friend. She tells me that in the books Jacob is like 6 foot 5, which is key because he needs to be capable of actually fighting the vampires. Not sure that little Taylor Lautner will be convincing in that aspect of the role. But I guess they aren't making this franchise for me.

I suppose its good
This kid is by far not the worst thing about this movie (the direction was, which hopefully seems to be fixed) but if they replace anything on this character Ihope its the hair extensions.

Good
I haven't seen Twilight, and I don't plan to, but I'm glad Taylor Lautner is staying in this role. I could understand him being replaced if he was being an arrogant dick, or was getting into the nose candy, but replacing him because he's not a "big name"? That's a whole mess of fail.
