Leaked images of the Millennium Falcon and more on the set of Star Wars

06.03.2014

Yesterday there were some pretty cool STAR WARS: EPISODE VII-related news in the form of casting, as well as some leaked photos showing off a Mos Eisley-esque town and a giant pig-alien-thing (that's the technical term, methinks). Today the bar is raised and we get to see something even cooler: The Millennium Falcon. Given the return of Han and Chewie, I'd say it's hard to leave the ship out of the occasion, but here you get to see some of the construction in all of its glory. What's also cool, is that we get to see the return of our favorite pig-a-thing, as well as what appears to be an X-Wing. Perhaps a modified version, or a Z-95?

Here's the leaked pictures, via TMZ:

At this point, it's easy to recall the hype being built for Episode I, and how that turned out for most fans back in 1999. Given George Lucas' backseat involvement, it seems people are a little bit more relaxed this time around. If Disney/Lucasfilm does fans right by releasing the ORIGINAL Star Wars films on Blu-ray by the time STAR WARS: EPISODE VII hits theaters, I'd say more sequels are just icing on the cake.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII will hit theaters December 18, 2015.

There is so much more that you can do with cgi, I don't know why people are pushing for less of it. The battle scenes in the prequels were incredible! Especially the space scenes, are you people really saying that you'd prefer models on strings???

Who says they want models on strings? Modern compositing technology can make models incredible. We've seen how great models can look in ID4.

Besides, my guess is that they're going to be using a hybrid approach. As Stan Winston always said, "Whatever works best for the shot."

if you don't understand why people are pushing for less CGI in the Star Wars universe, then you're lucky to have forgotten the prequels so quickly

we've come a long way from models on strings. I think cgi is a tool that is great to use, but I really don't like it when the entire film is cgi. You can usually tell when all the special effects in a film are cgi. Especially if they are big special effects. There's nothing more annoying when you have a cgi shot, and you can tell it's cgi. It takes you out of the film. I really love it when a director goes old school, and builds great set pieces!

TO CGI OR NOT TO CGI

Without a doubt the new SW film will have CGI but it seems to me that JJ and friends are doing everything they can in order to get fans of the original trilogy on board. And that's fine. But what I've seen from the set and heard from many of the BTS players is that there won't be an OVERreliance of computer generated imagery. So then let's say JJ makes a film that's close cinematically to the first film(s), won't fanboys sh*t on it too much like when Singer made Superman Returns to look a lot

My point is that if JJ uses too much CGI he'll get crapped on. If he doesn't then people will ask why he didn't (considering he has the mega-budget) and say that part 7 looks TOO much like the originals. And while I understand everyone wants to sit down and watch these new films and re-live their childhoods (which you can't so just let it go), we also need to move FORWARD with these films visually. But whatever....let's just hope he doesn't go crazy with the lens flare

A lot of skillful hard work going on here. I hope we get some long shots of people moving around inside the whole space of the Millennium Falcon.

I'm loving the ships and sets, etc. but, and I might get down-voted for this, the costumed extras from yesterday and that pig thing seem like Special Edition/Prequel leftovers.

You know it may not look like much, but I've heard it makes .5 past light speed. Its Kessel Run numbers are pretty impressive, too.

Well in this day and age, you'll always be able find pics/videos SOMEWHERE on the Internet. I mean, Disney doesn't have the power to delete that . . . or do they . . .

Cool pics, but Disney can't release the original trilogy!! Fox still has theatrical and home video distribution rights to ‘Empire’ and ‘Jedi’ through 2020 and the rights to ‘A New Hope,’ forever, Lucas forked those over to get 'New Hope' made.

I feel like Disney is more than capable of buying those rights back. Also shame on you for calling Star Wars "A New Hope"

The unaltered versions will be re-released, there's too much money to be made for both parties. And I'll be first in line to get them. Well maybe not first but I'll definitely go to the store after work on release day...or order it through amazon if it comes with a cool collectible...you get my drift...

There was an article about two weeks ago that it was rumoured to be happening. The altered versions were awful. Completely changed the feel of the movies from the original cut that i used to watch as a kid. Jabba's palace turned into a joke with the introduction of those cg characters the Darth Vader Noooooooo was another hilarious choice also turning that big scene into a joke.

X-Wing! Wait, no!

First I thought that was an X-Wing, and then on second look... X-Wings have four cylinders, one for each wing. This is different, it looks more like the early Ralph McQuarrie concepts like this one: [link]20by%20Ralph%20McQuarrie%20001.jpg
I think it's a good idea to go back in McQuarrie's portfolio for inspiration, that way you're certain to keep in line with the originals.

This is going to make us all kids again.

JJ really seems to be aiming towards the original fans. This will be our movie. He is making this for the 30+ crowd, with little CG and tons of practical effects. I trust him more with this than I did Star Trek.

i think he cares more about this than star trek. i remember reading an article where he basically said "star trek was cool, but i wasn't really fan growing up. star wars is a dream come true".

Really enjoying all of the hard work and dedication that seems to be going into all of the sets and designs. And the fact that the film has a great director and cast behind it makes it even better.
