Hans Zimmer and Christopher Nolan have one of those director/composer relationships that define one another. When you think of Steven Spielberg, you think of John Williams. When you think JJ Abrams, you think Michael Giacchino. Between the Batman films and INCEPTION, Zimmer and Nolan have crafted some of the more compelling movie scores in recent memory.

SoundWorks Collection has put together this interesting featurette that explores the sound and music of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. Capitalizing on the foundation laid in BATMAN BEGINS, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES score incorporates a unique sense of urgency and doom in the persona of Bane.

Check out the video below.

Hans Zimmer is the Guillermo Del Toro of musical composition. The guy has worked on so many huge films in the last 30 years, you almost forget some of them.

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is currently in theaters.

Extra Tidbit: Hans, I forgive you for scoring PEARL HARBOR and THUNDERBIRDS.

Looks like James Newton Howard sat this one out.

I always thought it was such an interesting pair-up with JNH and Hans Zimmer both composing original themes for both The Dark Knight and Batman Begins. I know it was originally Han's gig and he brought Howard along but I would be interested to know why he was alone this time.

Christopher Nolan offered James Newton Howard the opportunity to write the score with Hans Zimmer as he did for Batman Begins and The Dark Knight but Howard felt that due to the collaboration between Nolan and Zimmer on Inception, he would be like a third wheel.

Extra Tidbit:

Say what you will about Pearl Harbor the movie, but Zimmer's score was great and contains one of his most beautifully emotional themes. Zimmer's great, and I'm curious to see what he does w/ the new Superman movie b/c I can't help but think of Williams' classic fanfare when seeing the character.
