Let's pick a role for Christian Bale to play next

Aug. 24, 2011by: Niki Stephens

Christian Bale is a man in high demand. All of you already know this. The actor has five movies to choose from so which will it be?

Well that's the thing-- Bale has made it clear that a decision will not come until after filming on THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is over. It's a good move on his part. When Bale's done playing Batman, it will give him more time to make a good choice on what role he wants. I thought it would be fun to lay out the films and pick what we would like to see him in.

"Christian Bale should be in..."

A STAR IS BORN- directed by Clint Eastwood, costarring Beyonce Knowles. Remake of a remake of a remake.

GOLD- directed by Michael Mann, Leonardo DiCaprio was rumored for at one time for the lead role. Described as an adventure film.

OLDBOY- directed by Spike Lee, if Bale chooses this role he would play the villain. An Americanized remake.

OUT OF THE FURNACE- directed by Scott Cooper (CRAZY HEART), produced by Leonardo DiCaprio. The plot centers on, "a man released after serving years in prison for murder who wants only to follow through on his promise to marry his long-suffering girlfriend. But when he discovers his brother has been murdered after getting involved in a gambling racket, his goals change and he avenges the murder.”

NOAH- directed by Darren Aronofsky.

Bale is not attached to any of these films as of this moment. These are just his options. If you were Bale, which would you choose?

After reading the entire OldBoy Comic

All I can say is we better hope Spike Lee heavily changes his version as Chan-Wook Park did. I would not be surprised that directors such as Spielberg and Lin passed on the thought of remaking Oldboy by actually reading the Comic book first.

Noah (Hands Down)

Bale needs and epic. He's proven he can do anything and Noah seems like it would be unforgettable with Aronofsky directing.

I'd love to see Bale work With Michael Mann, and if he wound up being evil in OldBoy maybe it would give that movie a chance, but most likely he'll end up doing Aronofsky's Noah which at least has the potential for awesomness.

He's become redundant, why not take a bit of a chance and cast some unknown.

His affectations were effective to a particular degree but it has worn thin

Maybe he can, like, lose loads and loads of weight and play a junked out version of Howdy Doodie. Or maybe he can buff up again and play a dead-in-the-eyes arrogant mother beating psycho!

I would boycott a remake of Oldboy, but if Bale is the villain I may reconsider.

to me the top two choices seem obvious Noah or Out of the Furnace. Out of the Furnace seems like a strong leading role that would most likely get him another oscar nod! GO Bale!!

top two choices?

a star is born or oldboy
a star is born is because its been so long since he has done a musical and now that he's older be great to see what he can bring to the screen.
as for old boy the reasoning is simple after playing a hero for so long he needs to change it up with a role that will put him back in the minds of he's an actor a villian.

Gold

I really don't want them to remake Oldboy at all. The original is perfect.
But if I could pick a role for Christian Bale out of the blue, I'd like to see him play Charlie Manson

I'd go with Gold or Out of the Furnace. I'd also love to Bale back to a psycho-like role like American Psycho again. He was freakin' good in that movie.

Any of them sound good for Bale except for A Star Is Born. I love Clint but he shouldn't be doing remakes of remakes. Go

These all sound like projects you'd hear about in Entourage that would never actually get made in the real world. But of these, I'd most like to see him in Spike Lee's version of Old Boy.

I'd have to say Out of the Furnace or Gold. He'd really nail those.
No Beyonce, no Americanized film versions, he was already Jesus, Noah would be too much.

Noad or Gold in terms of quality and fun of film. Out of the Furnace in terms of a movie where his acting performance will be the best thing about it.

I would choose out of the furnace or Noah for Bale. He deserves more than an American remake of a classic and starring alongside Beyonce.
