Liam Neeson in talks to play the head of the MiB in Men in Black spinoff

When Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson step into a larger world of aliens and galactic mysteries for Sony's MEN IN BLACK spinoff, they may be taking orders from none other than Liam Neeson.

According to Variety, the actor is currently in negotiations to join Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in the upcoming spinoff. His role would be the head of the U.K. branch of Men in Black, filling a similar role to the one Rip Torn played in the first two films. The project is being fast-tracked with Matt Holloway & Art Marcum (TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT) penning the script with F. Gary Gray (THE FATE OF THE FURIOUS) set to direct. Plot details about the film are slim-pickings, but Omega Underground has claimed that the spinoff will "see Tessa Thompson’s Em try to prove herself by joining the London MIB and will be paired with Chris Hemworth’s Agent H. The pair will become involved in a murder mystery that will lead to them on a global journey." Take that with a grain of salt for now, but we'll likely learn more about the film before too long.

While speaking with Variety on the AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR red-carpet last month, Hemsworth spilled a few details about the project, which he's hoping will be "epic and fun" as well as different from the previous sequels.

We’re developing the script now. We’re basically trying to put a lot of humor in to it like the previous ones. These are obviously some big big shoes to fill, so we’re working our butts off on it to make something pretty epic and fun. They’re trying to change up the locations, make it feel unique and different to the last ones as well. So I think you might even see some different countries, possibly. Some different cities than you’ve seen in the previous Men In Black movies.

Chris Hemsworth also seems as though he's looking forward to sharing the screen with Tessa Thompson again, saying, "Oh, she’s incredible, great sense of humor, great heart. A lot of fun, we really just had the best time on Thor, and having the opportunity to work together again was a no brainer." Thompson also chimed in while speaking with Metro, confirming that the project is "super happening" and that the script is quite fantastic. "I really love those movies. I think they hold up. I watched them again recently. I really love them," Thompson said. "And it is taking the ‘Men In Black’ franchise and setting it now and making it global in scope. It is like an international team so you get to see sort of agents across the globe."

The MEN IN BLACK spinoff is set for a June 14, 2019 release.
