Liam Neeson Joins Felicity Jones In A Monster Calls

05.08.2014

I was wondering how long it would take for Liam Neeson to have another project on the go and now the workhorse has resolved my curiosity. Neeson has joined the big screen adaptation of Patrick Ness' A MONSTER CALLS. The fantasy drama will be directed by J. A. Bayona whose past works include THE IMPOSSIBLE, THE ORPHANAGE and he is currently set to direct the sequel to WORLD WAR Z.

Here’s a synopsis of the book:

A MONSTER CALLS tells the story of a boy, haunted by the tree that lives outside of his house- as the tree comes to life every night in the form of a monster that tells him scary stories. The unlikely bond that forms between them gives the story a unique twist, as the monster's dark tales soon become a way of helping the boy cope with some of life's harsh truths including his mother’s declining health and school bullies.

Well sleeping was fun wasn’t it? Just reading that gave me the heebie jeebies, but damn if it doesn’t sound intriguing. Neeson will voice the monster in question and joins the already cast Felicity Jones in the movie. Belen Atienza is producing which is great to hear considering he produced Guillermo del Toro’s PAN’S LABYRINTH, another dark coming-of-age story.

I will definitely be keeping this on my radar; it appropriately is set to come out in time for Halloween in October 2016.

Anybody read this? Thoughts? Sounds interesting.

Since his wife died, Neeson has easily been one of the (if not the) hardest working actor in the biz

I looked this up on wiki [link] and Goodreads .Sorry Graham McMorrow but your article is a little(wee) bit misleading .It`s not a scary halloween type movie. But a book about coming too terms with a love one dying.Unless they turn it into a horror movie and disregard the book.

It wasn't meant to suggest that it's a horror movie, it just personally sounded creepy to me. Sounds like a great read either way and should make for a entertaining movie.

Is it a kids book? Or "young adult?" Like Where The Wild Things Are?

ReelClerk: The post was written so well that i actually did look it up on the net.I took the quote,' sleeping was fun wasn’t it? Just reading that gave me the heebie jeebies' Plus the halloween date (normal a horror movie date) ..blah blah..yada yada.It was only after i read on wiki that it comes across as a children`s story that i thought the post was misleading.I watch Fox news so forgive me.

queen bee: Haha! I take no offense, re-reading it again, I could see where my being scared like a child could be over shadowing the tender side of this tale. Do we..do we hug?

Is this supposed to be a pretty dark Pans Labyrinth type story? Regardless it sounds interesting.
