Lily of the Valley: This Week on Breaking Bad (Episode 13 / September 8, 2013)

Sep. 9, 2013by: J.A. Hamilton

NOTE: Join us every MONDAY as we review the latest episode...

EPISODE 13: To'hajiilee

THE HOOK:

The beginning of the end. Walt leaves his empire behind to live life, while Jesses alive, but dying on the inside. And then theres Hank, whose gunning for the King. One wrong move could mean life or death, and at this point, its still anyones game.

THE LOWDOWN:

(The following column contains MAJOR SPOILERS, so I don't recommend reading this if you haven't watched this episode). Suffice to say, I think shit has officially hit the fan. First off, the flash forward scenes are starting to make a bit more sense now (like Walt on the run with a bigass gun in his trunk), but we havent seen enough yet to know just how much sense. I went on record saying that bringing Todd and his uncle into the mix wasnt going to be good for anyone, and from the beginning of tonights episode we see why. No blue color? Who cares, its got a hint of blue/green to it. Lydia isnt impressed, but after seeing what they did in the desert, shes not likely to say much until she absolutely has to. I think it helps that Todd has the hots for her and she knows it. Id like to say thats enough to keep her safe, but its not. He didnt even flinch when Walt asked him and his uncle to kill Jesse. No hesitation whatsoever. Thats a badass science ringtone though.

The Hank and Jesse play on Huell was pretty funny. Thankfully for them, Huell isnt too bright, and theyre lucky they got him away from Saul because hed have seen through that bullshit super quick. He dropped the ball on the money anyway, and that gave me the shivers. Okay, Walts evil, I cant debate this factsomething nailed home by his visit to Brocks house. The fact that hed implicate them in any way after what happened before is just cold. I cringed when he walked into that house and said hello to Brock. Yet, despite this, I dont want to see Walt lose his money. If he dies, Im fine with that, but the money has to live on through his family in some way.

And even though he didnt come out and say it last week, we knew the job Walt was referring to was a hit on Jesse. Todd and his uncle arent stupid. Theyre players now, and theyre learning the game fast. Asking Walt to cook makes sense, but theres no way hes going to implicate himself again. Sure, hes telling them yes, but I just cant see him doing it. I also didnt think Walt was stupid enough to fall for Jesses bluff. He feels desperate tonight for the first time in a while. The look on his face when he gets out to the desert and realizes hes been played was epic, as was the entire drawn out scene with Hank arresting him. The look in Walts eyes when he sees Jesse spoke volumes. Walt was one step behind, and just like that, Hank puts Heisenberg on his knees.

BREAKING BAD SEASON 5's thirteenth episode is the true beginning of the end. Walt calls in his reinforcements, only to call them off once he sees Hank jump out of the car. I think we all knew they were still coming. The real question is, why did Walt call them off? Yes, Hanks family, but this is a tight spot and sending them all to Belize might be the only answer here. I was waiting to hear the whistle of a bullet, followed by the spray of blood across Walts face as Hanks head exploded. It didnt quite happen that way, but I dont think Hank, Gomez, or Jesse will be walking out of the desert. If Hank dies, things will escalate on all fronts, as well as put Walt in Todds uncles back pocket. Hopefully Jesse doesnt blurt out something about the cash in an attempt to save his own skin. I could see that, but I hope Im wrong. Well find out in a week.

DRUG RELATED PROTIP:

Yes, the color matters.

BEST LINE:

Tonight Saul gives a star struck Walt Jr. some words of wisdom. Saul; Dont drink and drive, but if you do, call me.

BITCH-O-METER:

Three bitches in the desert. Were back in business!

COOLEST SCENE:

Hanks prolonged takedown in the desert, but most importantly, the instant Walt sees Jesse and realizes hes turned on him. The betrayal in his eyes when he calls him a coward is the stuff of legend.

FINAL VERDICT:

TELL US WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF THIS EPISODE BELOW!

Extra Tidbit: Would Hanks death be enough ammo for Marie to turn Walts entire family against him?

I thought it was DEEP DEEP purple. Either way, I would think it signifies that she was at a very low point in life- not necessarily that Hank is getting killed.

What, no posts on Walt Jrs boner for Saul? He hasn't been that excited since the Skrillex car montage.

Holy Hell

One of the best episodes of all-time! I thought I was having a coronary for most it, but the showdown in the desert was absolute insanity.
I knew Hank was dead by the way he and Marie were talking to each other, with heartfelt "I love you's" coming from both of them. This is gonna sting. Bad.

I just want to point out that Neo-Nazi goon #4 was using an AA-12 auto shotgun. It just pains me that atleast Gomez wasn't terribly torn to shreds- because that's what that weapon would do. [link]

My thoughts exactly. When they opened up fire I expected to see Hank and Gomez just ripped to shreds. Even without that shotgun, there's that many guns on two targets in the open and they get to cover unscathed? No way.

But otherwise, hot damn is the shit flying now.

That was the only thing that bothered me about the episode. That, as in all Hollywood action fare, the bad guys are ridiculously bad shots and can crank off MILLIONS of rounds of ammunition and not hit the good guys.

Holy shit that rocked. My thought is that Hank will die due to the fact he said some heartfelt things to Marie. Gomie's a goner and Jesse.... Well me thinks Jesse will be taken captive to produce the blue. Walt loves Jesse like a son. I know he wanted him killed but he couldn't do it himself and he can't leave Jesse to that fate so I reckon Walt will go after and try to rescue him. Also he will want payback for hanks death. Now I know I'm wrong coz I've been wrong on EVERY count so far this

I expect to see a meth lab go up in an explosion once Walt is commandeered into cooking for Todd's family. Maybe with Lydia in the building.

Awestome, simply awesome.

Alright, I was at the end of my couch cushin watching the end of this episode, while I'm not 100% Hank or Gomez are dead, it would make sense if it were. Here is why.
As I have stated in other posts, in the "future" shots of Walt, it does not state that he's running from the cops, so my thoughts are that Walt and Gomez are dead, which only leaves Jesse, which (unfortunately) will get killed or silenced somehow. Which means he turns, somehow, on Todd and his uncle and those maniacs, which

What an episode, what a way to end, and I cannot wait for next week, BTW, I forwarded my tv's guide to next week, no description what so ever.

You are 100% correct.

There is a good reason they showed no scenes from next week. It would just be Marie screaming and going after Skylar with a vengeance. This is going to be horrifying.

Horrifying.

It doesn't state that he running from the cops but i'm pretty sure he is. People know he's "Heisenberg". When he goes back to his house, its written on the walls. Also when his neighbor sees him, she screams. If the cops weren't after him, why would she scream?

I think Gomez is going to die but I think Hank will somehow make it out. Don't ask me how because I have no clue lol. Jesse i'm sure made it out. All the fire was aiming at Hank & Gomez. I think he got out of the car and made a

blsnychapter, Good point, but what I think is going to happen is that Hank is going to die and once Marie finds out, she will have access to the tape that Jesse made and she will go to the media with it (since she doesn't have hard evidence herself). This would explain why the world knows who he is.

But the cops would not be able to arrest him due to lack of evidence, but Todd's uncle and their gang could be nervous about Walt being out there knowing them, and the world knowing who he

That's just my own two cents.

I like your theory for sure, but you don't think there's a chance that the house being the way it is is cause of Todd and his uncle. They know he's Heisenberg. I mean they could've killed Walt's family because Walt won't cook for them because they killed Hank. Walt disappears to get away from them cause of what they've done and then comes back to get revenge. Idk it's one theory.

But again I like your theory.

Amazing

This was truly an all-time episode in a series filled with all-time episodes. Aaron Paul tweeted a bit to go that the worst is yet to come and if that is true, than we will all need to see a physician when it's over cause tonight was a pulse pounding hour.

I knew that Todd and his Uncle were going to get Walt to cook for them again, Lydia was bound to put the pressure of the 76% meth not bein up to snuff and with the fact it's not blue is just the cherry on top of it.

I truly believe

I truly believe Walt will not help them cook especially after this shoot out. So they will either kidnap him and force him and maybe Jesse to cook or the will do anything necessary to force Walt to cook (harm or worse kill his family). If true, then his return in the flash forward I believe will be more revenge oriented than staying on the run.

It was alittle heartbreaking listening to Hank talk to Marie towards the end of the convo, especially now knowing what was to follow as when he says he will be home late, I fear he won't be coming home at all. I really like Hank, he's a good man of the badge and morally a good man, but in the end I still root for Walt to make it, even though I know he's on borrowed time.

I thought next week's episode was the epic one with the promo of Walt reading Ozymandias to every one involved with the cast and crew, old characters coming back and Rian Johnson directing (check out IMDB), but now it has a tough billing to follow an episode like this.

Have an A-1 day indeed.

What I liked most about the episode was the chess game that Walt was playing with Jess, while Hank was unknowingly involved. My heart did leap into my throat thought when I knew they had Walt. I knew the instant they showed Walt the picture of the barrel they had him and I am kind of shocked Walt didn't take the time to think about it. But I also knew that this wasn't the end for Walt. I knew that Todd's uncle was still coming down as now they want Walt to cook and aren't going to give him the opportunity to get away. Sadly, I think this is the end for Hank and Jess, as we can already see in the flash forward that Walt has survived and there are no signs of either. So, I am betting they meet their end.

I'd say it's very unlikely Hank will survive this one. Hank has Walt's confession to Jesse about Brock on tape. If Hank were to survive at this port, Walt would remain arrested, and the flash forward scenes wouldn't be happening. Plus, there's only like 3 more episodes, so we're at the point where I expect main characters will be dropping like flies.

There's no way Hank is dead after this episode. If next weeks opens with him or Gomez dying it will be stupid. I don't think they would leave something like that on a cliffhanger. It's way more effective at the end of the episode. My vote goes to Jesse driving the car into the Nazi's killing most but 1 or 2. Hank kills the other 2 saving the day. Hank decides to let him go and say he died (somehow). He then calls Saul's guy to vanish. Did anyone see the trailer for next week where it was just
