Listen to Neil Finn's "Song of the Lonely Mountain" from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
New Zealand native Neil Finn of the popular '80's band Crowded House is supplying the title track, 'The Song of the Lonely Mountain,' for Peter Jackson's upcoming THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, and today you can listen to the track in its entirety by clicking the image below:
Peter Jackson has used recording artists for the previous Middle-Earth films, working with the likes of Enya, Emiliana Torrin, and Annie Lennox, so it's no surprise that he's doing the same for the next trilogy, not to mention retaining the brilliant Howard Shore to provide the score.
"'The Song of the Lonely Mountain' was developed from a dark and mysterious theme which the dwarves sing early in the movie," Finn told Rolling Stone. Once he was in a "Dwarven state of mind," Finn set about to record, saying: "After some days of mining underground (actually, in Peters office) I emerged with the song, then set about recording it with my sons Elroy and Liam. Dave Fridmann came in at the end with a bold mix. He seemed to respond well to my demands for 'more anvil!' Pop music needs more anvil!"
THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on WaterTower Music in the United States and Decca Records outside the United States. It will be available on December 11, 2012. |Extra Tidbit:||Do you think the songs enhance, detract, or are transparent to the Middle-Earth films? Personally, I think it's pretty cool and well in line with Tolkien's music-filled tales.|
