2013 Sony Pictures Movie Preview!

I love this time of year mostly because it's a "fresh start" to the new year in movies. To that end, we'll be presenting all of the top studios' 2013 movie previews right here, including a picture from each film (if a photo is available), its release date, the plot synopsis along with our basic THUMBS UP (we want to see this!), THUMBS DOWN (we do not want to see this!) or QUESTION MARK/NEUTRAL (not sure yet whether I want to see this or not -- wait & see) positions below each entry. Please feel free to leave your comments about each film, and be sure to look below for other 2013 previews that we'll be posting over the first few weeks of January 2013. Last year was a pretty kickass year in movies, so here's hoping that 2013 also brings us some coolness in film. Now here's SONY PICTURES' slate which includes Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures and Screen Gems...!

Evil Dead?

WHY WHY WHY....this remake looks like its a copy of another run of the mill straight to DVD horror movie. They are better off making a sequel.

Why a thumbs down? The original is good, but it limited itself due the time period. This remake can actually follow through with a complete adaptation of the novel as judged by the trailer. The cast is good and the director seems decent. She will at least be able to bring a female perspective to this. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing what they do with this and how much closer they get to the King novel than the original film.

I want a trailer for this already. I am very excited to see what Blomkamp has in store. This is a must on my list for the year.

However this managed to get made, I've no clue. Wasn't the first one awful? Did that many people really see it to warrant a sequel?

So much about this that I can't get behind. Jamie Foxx as POTUS. Channing Tatum. Roland Emmerich. I could be wrong, this could be a surprisingly fun movie. But there's so much working against it. Everything about this has written "made for stupid people".

The best part of this for me is it's all these great comedians poking fun at themselves. I think it's fantastic they are able to do that and for a feature no less. The trailer had me rolling, so this will hopefully be a great comedy.

I like the concept, but it's Shyamalan. And he's wandering into new territory again. The guy comes up with fantastic concepts, but how long can we continue to watch him make terrible movies before we just lose all interest?

Meh, without Raimi and Campbell, there just doesn't seem to be anything special about the film. Those two are the only reasons I ever had any interest in the franchise in the first place. But who knows, could surprise me.

Looks generic and Halle Berry hasn't done anything good in a long time. But Brad Anderson. If he's doing this film, there must be something special about it. Or at least, I can only hope.

Brad Anderson

It doesn't read as a good movie or look to be very interesting, but Brad Anderson is the director, so maybe there is something of quality to be seen. I doubt it, though, even from the director of Session 9, The Machinist, Happy Accident, and Transsiberien.

Awful

Went by the area where they were filming this it just looks awful, they got rejected by a couple places beofre they settled on the last one. Looks like Sandler doesn't carry the same muscle like he once did around these parts

This doesn't capture Sony Pictures Classics features, such as Woddy Allen's new movie, Blue Jasmine.

But, solid list nonetheless. I think 2012 was a year filled with underachieving tentpoles, aside from Avengers. 2013 seems to be taking a slight step back, a fiscally responsible year, setting up for another big year in 2014. Elysium and Evil Dead are guaranteed fan-pleasers, Carrie and Mortal Instruments are skewed toward tweens, not the average JoBlo reader. Monuments Men will be this

Monuments Men will be this year's 2012 Zero Dark Thirty or 2011 Moneyball for Sony. It should get a few Oscar noms. This is the End will be another Pineapple Express/Superbad for Sony. And of course, Sandler. The only typical formulaic feature missing from this slate is a Will Ferrel movie, hopefully Sony can pump out Other Guys 2 or something similar by 2014.

im actually most excited for "White House Down". I'm not sure why but i'd love to see a trailer for that as soon as possible. Also "Evil Dead", "This is the End" and "Elysium" all look pretty good. The ones at the end of the year which are obvious award contenders, its too early to say whether they will be like "Argo" or more like "Promised Land"
