Live-Action Mulan on the way from Disney

10.04.2016

Disney just seems to love adapting their animated movies into live-action features. Maybe it has something to do with them destroying the box-office pretty much every time they're released. Or maybe they're out of ideas. I don't know, I'm not here to judge.

Anyway, it's no surprise that they're digging deeper into their animated vault for more live-action gold, with news coming that they're now adapting a live-action feature from the 1998 animated MULAN film. And, honestly? This seems pretty awesome. I haven't really been enamored by their previous live-action adaptations. Even critically-acclaimed darlings, like JUNGLE BOOK, I thought was pretty good, but not great. However, with MULAN, you have the appeal of big battle sequences, badass wushu fight scenes, and an awesome, strong female character at the center. Hell, just having an Asian lead - female or otherwise - is cool enough for a big-budget tentpole film.

Honestly, MY biggest question is: will that annoying f*cking dragon-thing be in the movie? Because I hope not.

Disney is pushing to give MULAN a November 2018 release date. They also have a live-action LITTLE MERMAID and CRUELLA starring Emma Stone in the works, among a butt-load of others.

So what do you guys think? And what animated Disney films do you think would make awesome live-action film?

Extra Tidbit: Donny Osmond was the singing voice for Shang, the love interest in the animated MULAN film.

Honestly

Unlike the other two mentioned above, this is one I really think has a lot of potential for a live action adaption. First off, I'm the first person to complain about people whining about diversity in movies but that doesn't mean its not a good thing when it happens. An all Asian blockbuster coming from a major American studio, with what would undoubtedly be a massive CGI budget behind it, is something to celebrate. Also just imagine those battle sequences in live action. This could be a kids

I suppose its too much to ask for them to get Gareth Evans to direct.

But the Berlin version...the American version ruined it with taking the narrating away from Clopin.

agreed, its kinda nice when you are listening to the cast recording that the actions are being narrated. Then you remember that this is a live show where people can see whats happening, no narration needed. I'd switch back to chopin as narrator but cut his his lines almost in half. Show, not tell.

also, the new prologue is weird. Frollo's Brother? it gives too much sympathy to him. I wonder how he is trying to make amends to his brother by lusting after a gypsy girl and attacking quasimodo.

Im just saying that if they were to remake the Disney cartoon, keep the music in, make it bigger

Hmm, Dwayne Johnson has worked with Disney before on The Toothfairy and The Game Plan so how about a live-action version of Hercules?... Oh no, wait

Are you on drugs? Dwayne Johnson worked with on THE GAME PLAN, RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN, and MOANA. That other good movie TOOTH FAIRY is from 20th Century Fox, not Disney! I still hope Disney makes a live-action remake of their animated HERCULES movie, but best to wait for when I'm an A-lister so I can audition for Hades.

This deserves a thumbs up. Although to be honest It's not the worst idea in the world. Disney's Hercules (possibly still my favorite take on the character) would probably be one of the features best suited live action update and had the aforementioned unpleasantness never happened Dwayne Johnson probably wouldn't be a horrible choice. Not sure who would be the right choice now though.

So Disney's plan is to remake all the cartoons into live action? Have they run out of ideas?
