Live from New York, it's...Deadpool?

02.18.2016

Deadpool Tim Miller Ryan Reynolds T.J. Miller Gina Carano Banner

Would you like to see Deadpool host Saturday Night Live? Not Ryan Reynolds, but the actor in character for the entire episode? A fan by the name of Andrew Stege has set up a petition at Change.org to have the Merc with the Mouth host the long-running late-night program, and so far it has received over 23,000 signatures.

The petition, which is made out to Reynolds, Lorne Michaels, NBC and SNL, reads: "How would this not be hilarious having Deadpool in sketches, breaking the 4th wall, and inserting some of his brand of humor (obviously toned down a bit for network television)!?!?! I have not watched a full episode of SNL in years because I just haven't been able to stomach an entire episode, but having Deadpool host, star, and be all over the episode would get the DVR set so I can watch it again and again!!! Not to mention, depending on the musical guest, how awesome would it be to have some Deadpool interpretive dancing while the musical guest was playing? There's unlimited possibilities!!!"

Although I think this is an awesome idea, and I have a feeling that Reynolds would totally be down with hosting as Deadpool, I doubt it will actually happen. But an internet campaign to get Betty White to host the show worked, so maybe there is a chance that the unkillable mercenary will appear as the guest host on an upcoming episode.

Interesting idea, but SNL is too soft for Deadpool.

This guys is an idiot. He thinks deadpool hosting snl would help him stomach the episode?! Having him break the 4th wall would be cool for one sketch but an entire episode of that would be terrible. This guy should just go see the movie again or read some comics to satiate his deadpool appetite.

This could be the Star Wars Christmas Special all over again. Possibly horrible, or so awful it's great. I'm conflicted :-)

Sorry, no.....

SNL has terrible writing, so any appearance is just going to reflect badly on the character. Maybe a skit, but please don't do something cheesy after all the coolness the movie brought.

SNL has been shit for years. There are no talented people left.

It would become The Deadpool Show. Their funniest people (Terran Killam and Bobby M.) are in 1 or 2 sketches and have 3 lines between them. Weekend Update has been horrible as well. Neither Colin or Michael are funny.

I think the idea of Deadpool plaguing SNL would be fun but it would also be overkill. Deadpool is a great character but a whole SNL episode might wear things thin.

Too much of a good thing. Just do like they do whenever an actor who plays a popular character hosts (Pratt, Driver, Hemsworth) and have them play the character for one skit. Having Deadpool on the whole time will wear thin really quick. Especially since the whole reason we like Deadpool is because he's uncensored. Even though it's late night, SNL is still network. Terrible idea.

I don't often watch FULL episodes. But I do often watch individual sketches the following day. This WOULD be pretty awesome, but somehow I think the constraints of putting on a live sketch show for an hour and a half might make Lorne a little hesitant to say yes. But maybe his Canadian pride would get the better of him.

This won't happen. They've never allowed a character from a movie / TV Show host the show and I doubt they would start now.

If I'm Lorne Michaels...

... this is where I stop reading the petition.

I should mention that I like the idea and could even see SNL going for it but that petition very rude.

I know being rude works on the Internet but in real life, people rarely take rude comments seriously. In fact, they tend to do the exact opposite just to spite the jerks.

SNL has sucked for years, but if this were to happen I would gladly welcome it.

Heck yeah! Why not? The past couple of seasons and current season of Saturday Night Live aren't that funny but the hosts / guest stars make it funny, not the cast. Bringing Deadpool as the host would be a genius move.

So DEADPOOL will play different characters in different sketches? He'll wear different clothes and maybe wigs? And the characters will have different personalities, meaning that he won't be saying one-liners the whole time?

I think the idea is Deadpool in wildly different situations. He's a versatile guy.
