Logan gets a bad feeling at a funeral in the latest clip from The Wolverine; plus HBO first look

07.09.2013

UPDATE: I've also added the HBO First Look from the flick via Coming Soon. It's short but worthy of posting.

Aren't feeling too optimistic about THE WOLVERINE, are we? I think deep down inside you guys want this to work but unfortunately what you've seen so far doesn't seem to be doing it for you. I think it's at least worth giving a shot. Hugh Jackman is a fantastic Wolverine, and it's not his fault that the solo character films don't seem to be doing him an justice. But are the expectations too high?

Yesterday the extended train fight clip debuted bringing with it minor enthusiasm, at least to those who expressed their opinions. The second clip from the film focuses on the funeral scene and Logan senses that something isn't quite right. Then of course a fight breaks out. I just need to see the entire film and get the bigger picture. Seeing piece of piece like this isn't doing anything for the film. To be honest, it just kind of comes off as bland.

Synopsis: Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

THE WOLVERINE will release on July 26th.

While the two scenes they've posted are satisfying, I want this movie to work on so many levels. As a hardcore Wolvie fan, I'll stay positive and reserve my opinion on opening night.

I mean I know we'll never see a MAX (or any comic for that matter) Wolverine or anything. but he's chopping at limbs, can we get a little blood? In Origins, he cut through a sink like butter, there should be hands and feet flying everywhere!

Movie looks great and I still think it's going to be the best X-Men film since X-Men: X-Men United.

Just really curious to see how they tie this film into Days of Future Past.

The action in that clip...

...is the exact sort of action that, no matter how much time they invest into choreographing, just fails to impress me or engage me anymore. Am I the only one? Literally, whenever fighting like that starts to occur in movies, I just kind of zone out. Inception had a couple cool fight scenes because the choreography - the visual framing - was unique. The whole whip fast editing and punching and kicking and women kicking men's butt (sorry, it just looks ridiculous no matter how physically adept

The whole whip fast editing and punching and kicking and women kicking men's butt (sorry, it just looks ridiculous no matter how physically adept the female) thing is just very played out in action cinema. I find it amusing how Jackman, in the HBO First Look video, says "...this is action like you've never seen before." Really? Looks like standard martial arts shit.

Geeked Out

That's the first time I feel I've seen anything close to berserker rage from Jackman's Wolverine. Just lethal!

Yes. Really. The key words I used were "I" and "feel". Essentially my opinion is this is a more stripped down, unhinged looking Logan.

I agree. The "surprise" shotgun shooting seemed REALLY bland but Wolverine's fighting looked badass!
