Martin Starr and Logan Marshall-Green sign up for Spider-Man: Homecoming

06.16.2016

Actors have been signed up for SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING left and right, and today we have two new additions to the cast, as well as some very interesting info! So first off, Silicon Valley's Martin Starr is joining in on Marvel's web-slinging adventure. No word yet on who he'll play, but given that it's been some time since his Freaks and Geeks days, I'd venture to guess that it's NOT a student. Now this next bit of news is much more interesting...

Logan Marshall-Green (PROMETHEUS) has not only been cast in the film, but every website under the sun is reporting that he'll be playing one of the villains alongside Michael Keaton. We've known that The Vulture would be the primary villain of Homecoming, and most figure that Keaton is a shoe-in for that role, but let's take a look back at our exclusive scoop we delivered a month ago. You can check out the entire scoop HERE (or watch the video below), but we detailed that The Vulture will be aided by The Tinkerer. Now that we have the two names of the villains, who will be playing who? Could Michael Keaton play second fiddle to Marshall-Green's Vulture? We'll find out soon enough!

SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING will swing into theaters on July 7, 2017.

Can't wait to see how a proper Spider-Man movie will be filmed.

I hope it's villains that are doing their own thing and don't have it out for Spider-Man. Who could have it out for Spider-Man? He's too nice! I think that would be refreshing to see. Not everything revolves around a superhero.

You know, it's interesting. In the comics, that was pretty much the case until Green Goblin came along and figured out his identity. Which was this huge deal and a paradigm shift for the character and his villains. But then the first Spider-Man movie ever chose (reasonably) to tell that story first, resulting in their weird reverse status-quo where it's unusual for a Spider-Man villain to *not* have a personal beef with Spidey.

Doubt Keaton will play second fiddle to Green

Keaton will likely be Vulture and Green will probably be Tinkerer who will likely be an ex comrade of Tony Stark.

Damn, you opened up a can of worms in my head... Ex-Comrade of Stark made me immediately want Sam Rockwell back as Justin Hammer posing now as The Tinkerer (tinker with some canon) - obviously he'd have a vendetta against Stark and any of his buddies. Keep him in the shadows for most of the movie and reveal him later as the 'bad guy help' - plus seeing Rockwell, Keaton, Downey Jr. and Holland play quips off each other is just too fun to imagine.

Hopefully Martin Starr is the same pizza man he was in Incredible Hulk, just make him a full character this time.

One of those will probably be Uncle Ben !
The other one might be a future villain, just introduced in the film...

Considering the fact that Marissa Tomei is significantly older than both Marshall-Green and Starr, and Uncle Ben is already dead in Civil War, I'm guessing that's not the case.

Marissa Tomei is hot so she's not too old to rob the cradle with a younger Uncle Ben. That being said, Peter Parker is already Spiderman in Civil War so I'd assume Ben was already killed by a mugger unless it was secretly the Sandman (Spiderman 3 canon). I thought Batman v Superman wouldn't show Batman's origin and they sure hammered it once again so who's to say we don't get Uncle Ben flashbacks for old times sake. Would have loved to see Bonesaw return. (RIP Macho Man)

Yeah, "hammered it" seems like a bit off an exaggeration. It was just a brief scene during the opening credits, and a beautifully shot sequence as well. It didn't take up too much screen time and it played the important role of establishing that Bruce Wayne's mother is named Martha, so that we could have that emotional moment of him sparing Superman's life because of the shared name. We even had a flashback to the flashback so we remember, because we couldn't possibly recall what happened in

Okay, that was sarcasm, but I don't think that sequence at the beginning hurt the movie, and I don't have a problem with a flashback sequence during the credits of Spider-Man: Homecoming. That doesn't count as an origin story.
