Lone Ranger rides again

Mar. 6, 2002by:

We've got more evidence that Hollywood is digging deep into its own pockets for profitable franchise films to be remade/updated with news that Columbia has greenlit a $70 million 2002 version of THE LONE RANGER. The most frightening part? They're thinking turning the Ranger's sidekick Tonto into (and I quote): "a lithe, buxom female." Ho boy. The film is being fashioned after the successful Antonio Banderas film THE MASK OF ZORRO which launched the career of Catherine Zeta-Jones and managed to actually make an entertaining update of the Zorro saga. Douglas Wick (GLADIATOR) will produce the film but so far no writing or directing talent are attached.
