Long Avatar clip

Fox has premiered a new, extended clip from AVATAR online titled “Thanador Chase,” which features, well…a Thanador chase. What exactly is a Thanador? It’s that alien-looking monster that you’ve glimpsed in the trailer chasing Sam Worthington’s character. This clip is basically that scene as the monster ambushes their troop and chases Worthington through the jungle.

I’ve watched this clip a few times now as it’s the first real long-form, unedited clip from AVATAR that’s been online. It’s mostly pretty impressive but I’m just surprised that Fox has decided to premiere it online. This seems like something that would’ve been better off running on HDTV during Sunday football (though to be fair, this footage was part of the “Avatar Day” presentation). There were some small issues I had with the animation on Worthington but there were also parts (when he’s firing the gun and later, swimming underwater) that were actually exquisitely rendered.
