Long awaited Jimi Hendrix biopic to begin filming in Ireland with rapper Andre 3000 in the title role

May. 8, 2012by: Alex Maidy

Rock icon Jimi Hendrix is finally getting the big screen treatment in ALL IS BY MY SIDE. After several stalled attempts at making a movie about Hendrix, it will begin filming soon on location in Ireland. Rapper and occasional actor Andre 3000 will star in the title role.

Hendrix is an iconic American music legend whose career only lasted for about 4 years. ALL IS BY MY SIDE will chronicle the musician's early years in England in 1966 and the recording of his classic debut, Are You Experienced.

The film will be written and directed by John Ridley, screenwriter of THREE KINGS and U-TURN.

The rise and fall of musicians can make for great movies. Hollywood has always latched onto these tales and we have had quite a few excellent movies come out of it. They are also almost guaranteed to be Oscar contenders. Andre 3000 does have a short film career under his belt ranging from the drama FOUR BROTHERS, the musical IDLEWILD, the children's movie CHARLOTTE'S WEB, and the Will Ferrell comedy SEMI-PRO. This would be his first high profile starring role.

Extra Tidbit: I have nothing negative to say about this movie. I love Hendrix's music as well as Andre 3000. This works for me on all levels.

I'm both excited and apprehensive about this entire project. Sure, 3000 has the look of Hendrix, but does he have the acting chops?

Love the idea but...

This site acts like there hasn't already been a great Jimi Hendrix movie. Look up "Hendrix" starring Wood Harris.

Only problem with that film was it felt a little rushed and was a little low on budget but it was Wood Harris who made the movie great, he was almost too good, idk if Andre can top him.

Maybe his audition was amazing...

, but I just don't know about this. Ray Charles gets Jamie Foxx, Johnny Cash gets Joaquin Phoenix, Jim Morrison gets Val Kilmer, Jimi Hendrix gets.... Andre 3000?

Never put the guy down once. Just said I don't know about this. Jamie Foxx may not have been the critically praised actor he is today when he was chosen for 'Ray', but he was clearly capable of taking on a dramatic role, if not one that size. I love me some Jimi, just hoping this movie is all it can be.

Jamie Foxx was not that well of an established dramatic actor before Ray. Yes he was in Any Given Sunday and for some reason Michael Mann saw something (Collateral came out that year and ALI in 99) Foxx was not the ideal choice for Ray back then, however he was fantastic. I am not saying Andre 3000 is going to be good just do not put the guy down till you see the movie.

I freaking love U-Turn!!

If Ridley wrote that and Three Kings, then I trust his judgement!

I really don't need this biopics, let me guess he did a lot of drugs, had a lot of sex, and died too young

I'm more than a little jazzed about this project. Hendrix is one of my all time top favorite musicians and I dig Mr. 3000 as well. Bravo Hendrix family for finally let someone make a feature film about an astounding talent.

Left-handed guitarist?

I don't like Andre, don't care much about a Hendrix biopic - I mean hasn't this story been told countless times about other famous people? Plus, I play guitar and am really particular about "real" playing on screen. They can switch the frame and make backward sets, but to me, nothing about this excites me.

I actually apperciate vocals, I'm not interested in wallowing in a gangster culture and I don't like the way rappers express themselves. Including their stupid hand gestures.

Let me guess, rap is frustrating to listen to because of "certain words", right?

I will add that I'm pretty cynical toward music right now overall since there is basically nothing that appeals to me.

And yes, the rock genre has been overtaken by lame self hating youth who doing think they get enough attention from mommy and daddy.

Rock has contributed to it's own demise. But that doesn't mean that I will be switching to nursery rhymes for adults.

If theres a genre thats rapidly dying its rock which is evident by all the beer-bellied, wrinkle faced, obviously wigged/dyed hair artists who still think they're 18.

Who knows maybe this biopic (though I'm skeptical) might make rock (no pun intended) hip."

If rock is for old beer bellied folks isn't that more of a reason for this D actor to stick to the rap genre? Maybe he can do a Tupac bio film or something.

End of rap? Highly unlikely with guys like you whose hate only manages to popularizes it more.

Just wondering if Andre will mime or manage to pull off that Star Spangled Banner riff or maybe out of respect they will leave it out?

I'm a rocker through and through

but I still gotta say that Outkast have some damn good tunes. However I'm unsure about this movie just because of how easily it could go south. STILL I'm not going to be prejudice or one of those douchebags saying 'ewww rap suxxx ewww' I'm not a rap fan, it's just not my thing but that's fine. This isn't him rapping, this is him acting just like The Rock in a movie isn't him wrestling it's him being an action hero -- and it works, so hopefully this works as well. Fingers crossed!

Yeah, and having The Rock in movies isn't really a good thing since he can't act.
