Looks like we have Hugh Jackman to thank for Logan's R-rating

Although there are certainly exceptions to the rule, Hollywood is typically hesitant to invest a great deal of money in R-rated features when a PG-13 will put many more butts in the seats. Although DEADPOOL proved that an R-rated superhero flick could be a huge success, you need to take into account that its budget was fairly small, especially when compared to typical blockbuster fare. Hugh Jackman and James Mangold had long hoped to film Jackman's final film as Wolverine with an R-rating in mind, but in order for 20th Century Fox to sign off on that R-rating, it had to make due with a little less cash.

During the recent Butt-Numb-A-Thon film marathon, James Mangold revealed where the budget was cut and it turns out that Hugh Jackman volunteered to take a pay cut in order to bring the budget down to an amount that Fox was comfortable with. Judging by the reaction to the forty-minutes of LOGAN which recently screened at the Fox Showcase, I think we all owe Jackman a big thank you.

LOGAN will hit theaters on March 3, 2017.

It sucks that it took the success of deadpool for fox to allow this to be rated R. This is exactly what I always wanted from a Wolverine movie, seeing Logan face off against regular human baddies and impaling them one by one. Its that simple.

Jackman needs to make this his second to last Wolverine appearance and come back for Deadpool 2 and/or 3. Would love to see this new, comic book faithful adaptation and interpretation of Deadpool go toe to toe with Wolverine.

Thank you Deadpool

I genuinely believe if Deadpool wasn't the R Rated low budget success it turned out to be I'm not sure if Hugh doing it for free would've given us an R Rated Wolverine movie. Stoked it's happened but I think Deadpool deserves a huge thank you for this.

I'm glad Hugh took the hit on the salary, but what I get the most out of the trailer and what I'm looking forward to the most is the potential of Patrick Stewart's performance. We all know he can out-act anyone, but hopefully this gets him an Oscar nod for best supporting. The looks on his face during those two minutes cover almost every emotion, I hope he steals this movie.

And this is exactly why this will be the first Wolverine film I will support by buying a ticket to see it in a theater.

Although I can't say for sure this one looked like it could have been made for much less money based on the trailer and I would not be opposed to a smaller budgeted Wolverine film.

Good for him.....

He's a guy that has made some great movies, and been great in some mediocre ones. I just don't understand why actors who believe in a certain film rarely have the option of less guaranteed money but with back-end points that would make up for it if it does well. That seems like a no-brainer but you rarely hear of anyone doing it (or being allowed to do it).

Well then, if that's the case let me be amongst the first to say: Thank you Mr. Jackman.

From an appreciative fan
