Lou Ferrigno says a Hulk movie is coming after The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Dec. 3, 2013by:

While Lou Ferrigno will forever hold a place in the annals of Marvel history for bringing the Hulk to life, he is far from a reputable source when it comes to the future of the character on the big screen. But, having voiced the big green guy in THE AVENGERS and likely in THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, he may know a little something.

In a recent interview with Flicks and the City, Ferrigno claims to know that Mark Ruffalo and Hulk will be getting a solo adventure, sooner than we thought. When asked about the long rumored Hulk solo movie, here is what he had to say (skip to the 2 minute mark for the start of the quote).

Now, it seems pretty obvious that any Hulk solo movie would have to come after THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, so this isn't revolutionary news, but Ferrigno speaks with such confidence it is hard to write it off as wishful thinking. I would be inclined to think Ruffalo getting a solo movie as Hulk wouldn't not happen until 2016 at the earliest, but likely not until 2018. With rumored films for THE UNHUMANS, DOCTOR STRANGE, BLACK PANTHER, and sequels to THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA, and the third AVENGERS film all taking precedence, there just isn't room in the current two films a year format for a Hulk feature. It doesn't mean it won't happen, but with Kevin Feige saying that a solo Hulk movie wasn't in the near future, we may have a longer wait than Lou Ferrigno thinks.

THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hits theaters May 1, 2015.

I wonder if Ferrigno charged them his customary $40 to film him.

How hard is it to make a film of a character by the people behind the comics...where the main guy is good at busting things up? Ruffalo's Banner was clearly liked by most people so that's a massive start. I thought the ending of the Incredible Hulk where Norton’s Banner smiles before transforming...and then a later interview with Norton, where he says it might imply a dark side… set it up for a potential Avengers must stop a Hulk rampage scenario. The Ultimate Avengers animated movie where Cap and Hulk have a wonderful throw down (surely inspired the Hulk’s fight with Roth’s Blonsky) ...with the rest of the team getting a good beat down was a blast. It isn't that hard to get this right...when so much is in place to make this work.

Seems like he's a bit of a prick AND an idiot. But bring on the next hulk. It seemed like he was really popular in avengers. Did Norton's film not do as well as the other movies?

It needs to happen. The last two Hulk films had too much vision and not enough substance. I feel like Marvel is finally starting to feel comfortable in it's skin in terms of big screen adaptations. Plus Mark Ruffalo makes a great Banner, so why not do it right while you still have the timing.

Let's hope they stick more closely to the original comic book version's origin this time.

If I could have a five minute chat w/ Kevin Feige

It'd go a somethin' like this:

Mr. Feige, look you guys are doing great. You have created one of the most recognizable brands in Hollywood and people, not only the fans but the general public are eating this stuff up. Kudos to you, you guys definitely don't want to over saturate the market but you could release 3 films a year and people would still eat it up. Could you do us the fans a solid though and make Phase 3's schedule look something like this:

2016:
May: Thor 3
July: Hulk

Nov.: Dr. Strange

2018:
May: Infinity Gauntlet (Umm... I mean Avengers 3)
July: Inhumans
Nov. Whichever of their Netflix series is the most popular gets rewarded by getting the Firefly/Serenity treatment and getting a big screen follow-up that will tow that magical line of appealing to the fans of the series which at the same time being accessible to the general public.

Oh, and as long as I can get an Adam Warlock movie before I die, I'll be happy. Thanks Mr. Feige, you are the man.

I agree with everything but Hulk 2 being in 2016. I'm sure Dr. Strange is being lined up as Marvel's newest marketable hero so he'll probably get the May or July release with Thor staying in November.

We should have gotten a Hulk sequel ahead of Thor and Captain America. Thor 2 was good, I just would have preferred another Hulk movie instead.

Ruffalo stole the show very effectively in The Avengers. I wonder if Ferrigno, Eric Bana and Edward Norton can get a cameo together, should this solo film come to fruition.

It'll never happen but

I wish they could make Hulk vs. Wolverine. I literally would be more excited to see that than Supes vs. Bats...

Planet Hulk?

I could see Hulk being marooned on some distant planet by the end of Age of Ultron which could lead to Phase 3 featuring more out in space films and eventually the Guardians finding Hulk and bringing him back to Earth to help stop Thanos.

Hulk just seems too great of a character to not have another solo film to go along with all of the other films in the phases. I mean they set up The Leader at the end of The Incredible Hulk and they still have The Abomination (who hasn't been referenced since), so why not just use that as a starting point for a sequel.

"long rumored solo movie"

just kind of a funny choice of words given that in the last decade we've already had two of them, the most recent of which was a direct tie-in to the Avengers movie. no offense.

i think hulk inherently works best as a supporting character. i don't know about the comics - but that's a different medium. i think he just doesn't translate as well to the big screen, because beyond the surface jekyll/hide thing, hulk himself isn't interesting enough to be a lead. that's why he was such a

I think it's a matter of him not having a well-written movie, not that his character is boring (it's far more interesting than Thor). The first movie was bizarre, had the Army hunting him, a sad romance, had him fighting a poodle, then fighting a water-ish thing. The second movie had the Army hunting him, a sad romance, then a 3 minute fight in the end against a character that just popped up 3 minutes before that.

Seriously, they put more effort into his confrontations with Thor than the

Two Things:

1. Kevin Feige has said on a couple of occasions that they might expand to three movies a year, specifically he mentioned this when they were trying to lock down a release date for Ant-Man. So, I would not be at all surprised if some (or possibly all) of the phase three years had three films.
2. It's Inhumans not Unhumans.

I just hope Lou Ferrigno isn't in it. The scene in Incredible Hulk where Edward Norton is obsequiously sycophantic to Ferrigno when he gives him the pizza made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Really looking forward to Ruffalo though.

Hell with another Cap or Thor movie...

I want a Hulk movie. I know they've had a tough time finding the right tone, but I really think with Ruffalo on board there's a great chance to do it right. I'd love to see a cinematic "Return of the Monster".
