Louis Leterrier is back to direct the sequel for Now You See Me

Aug. 28, 2013by: Niki Stephens

Right before NOW YOU SEE ME debuted in May, I was wondering if people would actually go out and see it. There were tons of spots on television but I didn't hear much talk from people actually wanting to go out to the theater to check it out. To my semi-surprise it did fairly well. I still didn't hear people talking about it. I think my Grandma said it was "a good one".

I enjoy Louis Leterrier specifically for what he brought to THE INCREDIBLE HULK with Edward Norton (say what you want). He brought us some great action sequences in THE TRANSPORTER 2. There may not be much in his resume but I think there's definitely more to come. One thing he's got locked down is a sequel to NOW YOU SEE ME. The director confirmed the news with Coming Soon:

"Im currently, not writing, but were coming up with the story, the plot, the everything, the twist and the new characters and everything. It was always at least a diptych, two movies, to tell one long story, so yeah, Im very much involved in it. I dont know if its going to be my next movie. I know we want to do it pretty fast but I might be able to do another movie in between.

He also mentioned an extra scene that will make it to the DVD/Blu-Ray release which will hit stores on September 3rd:

"It was sort of ending up (with the movie) in onto further adventures,' which is fine, but we don't really do that. We had a scene that we kept and when Lionsgate and Summit said, 'Yeah, let's do a sequel,' I said, 'Okay let's put it on the DVD and do the longer cut. It's after the credits, but I was very conscious of not jinxing it. This summer I saw a couple of movies where they had 'sequelitis' and you totally jinx it, but this was only for the DVD and only for the Blu-ray."

Would you like to see a sequel?

I enjoyed it enough, I'm also not sure there's really a need for a sequel but it was a decent enough summer movie.

I saw this movie over the weekend and thought it was pretty bad actually. Love all the actors (although talk about underusing Dave Franco, wow!) and the directing was fun but the "magic"-based storyline was so ridiculous and over-the-top, made no sense. Mostly because all of the so-called "magic" in the movie was obviously NOT REAL (since movies are make-believe), so it basically made the entire premise less convincing, at least to me. I guess they're trying to turn it into an OCEAN'S 11 type

I guess they're trying to turn it into an OCEAN'S 11 type of franchise, but please change the "magic" to more believable stuff next time, or just go the route of the FF franchise and just turn it into a "heist" series, with some bits of magic/illusion mixed in.

It was Decent, no need for a Sequel.

This is one of those movies that I didn't mind spending the $8, and in the end felt no need for anymore information. Its just one of those movies that will be on FX 400,000 times (Transformers 2, Wanted, Eagle Eye) and when I'm bored I leave it on the TV.

Never saw this as franchise-material but it was sufficiently entertaining, if not anywhere close to as smart as it thought it was, and it actually makes a lot of sense seeing as though the movie spends a lot of time establishing characters and sub-plots that don't go anywhere. Screw it. I'll watch it.
