Lupita Nyong'o joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as part of Black Panther

05.12.2016

marvel studios, black panther, t'challa, marvel cinematic universe

Lupita Nyong'o already has a place in the STAR WARS Galaxy under her belt, so why not add a spot in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to her resume? Nyong'o will be doing just that, signing on for a major part in BLACK PANTHER.

Although her specific character has not been revealed at this moment, Nyong'o is believed to be the love interest of Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa/Black Panther who was recently introduced to us in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. While the very term "love interest" can be enough to roll your eyes given the history of such a character trope, one has to believe there is a bit more meat to whoever Nyong'o would be playing in order to attract her to the project to begin with. She doesn't strike me as the damsel in distress type.

So go ahead and start placing your bets... Which character from the Marvel Universe with Black Panther history might Lupita Nyong'o be playing?

BLACK PANTHER opens in theaters on February 16, 2018.

Make her a villain

I know nothing about Black Panther characters, but it would be cool to see her play a strong, intelligent villain. A female villain is something the MCU really hasn't done yet (aside from Nebula in GotG), and would certainly be interesting.

Lupita is developing quite a strong relationship with Disney, as this will be her third role in a property owned by the studio. She played Maz Kanata in Star Wars for Lucasfilm, Raksha in the live action adaptation of The Jungle Book, and now she will be in a Marvel Studios film. I hope Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios cast her as a voice actor (she does have a great voice) so that she can round out her Disney property roles.

Damn, Lupita is a gorgeous woman!

And a talented actress.

If Marvel really wanted to be dicks, they'd make her Ororo Munro (aka Storm), since she actually married Black Panther. There are a couple of other characters (Queen Divine Justice, among others) but Storm is most linked with Black Panther.

Marvel doesn't have the rights to use Storm. They legally can't do it.

Just call her Omomo Ronmoe. We'll get it.

Seriously, I am more actracted to Rihanna or Beyonce though. I guess I prefer milk chocolate to dark chocolate.

"Love Interest"

I hate it when they say an actress will be the "love interest" as if that's all they are good for. It's actually a deamining term for me. That being said, a character of her caliber is an asset to the film.

Awesome news. My guess is she's playing Shuri black panther's sister and a costumed fighter as well. Very similar fighting style and costume, although later in the comics T'Challa was magically "enhanced" and she was not. But Shuri is pretty awesome. She could also be one of, or the head of, the Dora Milaje, those are the all female kingsguards. If its not Shui well then lets hope she is more like Pepper Pots or Peggy Carter when it comes to the role and less like Jane Foster.

Hope it won't be another Jane Foster with a talented actress trapped in an unthankful supporting role.

I agree. That role was the biggest waste of Natalie Portman since the STAR WARS prequels.
