Strike Back below!
by: Omar Aviles Jul. 7, 2009

MacGruber If you thought the era of horrible SNL character based films was over, think again, because MacGruber is about to join the not-so-great pantheon. The MacGuyver parody starring Will Forte as the all-purpose dingbat will, according to "Production Weekly", be getting the feature treatment directed by the character's creator, Jorma Taccone, with production expected to begin next month in New Mexico. Forte had mentioned on a recent talk show that they've been working on a script with the intention of making it a feature and, unfortunately, it seems he wasn't just being wishfully optimistic. Clearly, they didn't learn a thing from NIGHT AT THE ROXBURY, SUPERSTAR, or LADIES MAN. This one promises to be just as ridiculous and silly as the best of them.

Come on
Don't tell me that JoBlo hates the new SNL? Ever since Seth Meyers took over the show has been 10 times as funny as the grossly overrated Tina Fey years.

I love the current SNL, it's the funniest it's been in a decade. Meyers has written some downright hilarious sketches, much better than the Tina Fey "Debbie Downer" type of crap that was airing during her tenure.

This movie probably won't be made, and I hope it isn't MacGruber is mildly funny, but not movie material.

I haven't ...
... watched SNL in ages, so I've no idea what this character is, but I liked all of the above mentioned films.

And let's not forget 'Wayne's World', but maybe we should try to forget 'Stuart Saves His Family'.

I love the skit. SNL is very hit or miss with their movies. And how did you not like Night at the Roxbury?

Not a fan of this skit, but if Jorma's involved, i'll watch.

No love for Roxbury, though? I love that movie. Deeply.

Actually...
I quite enjoyed Night at the Roxbury and Ladies Man. They weren't fantastic but they were pretty amusing. I have a feeling MacGruber will turn out to be very similar to something like Hot Shots! or Spy Hard.

You also forgot:

It's Pat

Coneheads

Stuart Smalley Saves His Family

Unfortunately, it looks like we'll keep seeing this kind of shit until Lorne Michaels dies.

Mcgruber is great! Whether or not it could be sustained for a whole movie... thats the question.

Lot of hatred
Will Forte is really under appreciated cast member of SNL. I'm glad he's finally getting a leading role. Not counting The Brothers Solomon because it's almost impossible to compete with Will Arnett. I really hope this works.

But the whole point of the MacGruber sketch is that it only lasts like 20 seconds and then the building blows up.

It's a funny sketch, but it works in 30-second bits about crashing stock markets, selling his soul to Pepsi, bickering with Richard Dean Anderson, and getting himself blown up. All very funny, but not the least bit cinematic. Maybe they could do a whole TV show, though.

After Dick In A Box, Lazy Sunday, and the Andy Sanberg as Mark Wahlberg thing, I find MacGruber to be the funniest thing SNL has had to offer in about 20 years. So the movie might be okay.

Forte shows up on Tim & Eric Awesome Show sometimes. Would be great if he got them to appear in this movie if it happens.

I agree. The skit is hilarious... but it's usually only 15 or 20 seconds long.

I am interested to see if they can make it work or not though.

This skit is really funny in small doses. I'm not sure how they're going to be able to stretch it out to 90 minutes.

I still stand by my statement that "Pep-suber" was the funniest superbowl spot this year.
