Maggie Grace and Guy Pearce get launched into space by Luc Besson

08.04.2010

After being kidnapped (and running like a total dork) in TAKEN, former "Lost" castaway Maggie Grace is getting back with writer-producer Luc Besson for a new sci-fi/action project called LOCKOUT.

The movie will feature Guy Pearce as "a man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. He's offered his freedom if he can rescue the president's daughter (Grace) from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates," according to Deadline.

Almost sounds like it could be another Snake Plissken movie (Carpenter and Kurt Russell had once supposedly kicked around ESCAPE FROM EARTH).

The movie has apparently been retitled from the originally announced SECTION 8, which was described as taking place in "a prison orbiting 50 miles above the earth. The prison houses 500 of the world's most dangerous prisoners, who are kept asleep by sophisticated techniques until they suddenly awaken." It was also initially planned as a 3D movie.

Irish duo Stephen St. Leger and James Mather (aka Saint and Mather) are directing, and co-wrote the script with Besson.

Extra Tidbit: You can check out Saint and Mather's indie short film PREY ALONE.

She doesn't have enough hotness to mask her terrible acting ability. She's a big ol' blemish on LOST. I'm also curious how the first daughter gets up on a space prison.

Nice!

Not necessarily a fan of Maggie Grace (no I'm not gay, just picky when it comes to my hotties!)...Prey Alone was pretty sweet so it's cool to see Saint and Mather team up with Besson who has always been one of my underdogs that I enjoy watching projects he's involved in....

I do think this is a pretty cool premise, but I'm not sure why the prisoners are "kept asleep" in their space prison. Surely it defeats the point of being in prison if you just sleep through your sentence, wake up and get released? I mean sure, most of your loved ones will probably be dead and you'll return to a strange, unfamiliar planet... but if these guys are the hardest criminals the world has ever known, I don't think they'll really care about that shit.

Hopefully it'll be explained.

You can make the same argument about the halos the criminals have to wear in Minority Report. But yes, I agree with you in regards to why they're asleep in the first place.

Lmao props to the writer of this article. As soon as I read the synopsis I thought in my head, someone's been watching the escape films. This sounds extremely promising, here's hoping they get it right.

Give Me Guy!

Guy Pearce could read the phone book and I'd buy the Blue-Ray collector's edition. Tossing him in a direct Escape From New York ripoff (in space!) sounds like a total hoot.

Normally outer-space sci-fi isn't my thing on paper. But I'm a pretty big fan of "Prey Alone" and the idea of teaming Saint and Mather with Luc Besson's movie-machine sounds intriguing.

Plus, it's another opportunity to see Guy Pearce do the action-star thing.

Wait, how does the president's daughter end up in a floating prison in the middle of a riot?

Whatever, Besson is pretty fantastic.

This sounds freakin' awesome. Love the premise and Guy Pearce is one of the most underrated actors out there. Now this is a movie that's going to kick ass.
