Maggie Gyllenhaal may star in Roland Emmerich's White House Down

06.07.2012

Every time I see the words "WHITE HOUSE DOWN" I laugh a little inside. Will I watch it? Of course.

Channing Tatum has already signed on to star, now he's getting some company in Maggie Gyllenhaal. Guess what? Even Jamie Foxx might come on board!

Here are the details we have on the roles thus far: "Pic finds the White House under siege by a paramilitary group that holds everyone inside hostage. Channing Tatum will star as a Secret Service agent who leaps into action to defend the U.S. president, a role for which Jamie Foxx is in talks. Gyllenhaal has been offered the role of a patriotic Secret Service agent on the president's detail."

The best part about it, in my opinion, is that James Vanderbilt is the one who wrote the script. I really loved ZODIAC. That film was incredibly creepy and terribly underrated.

Like this movie idea (like Air Force One on the ground). Hate Maggie Gyllenhaal.

James Vanderbilt? I might have to change my tune...

That godawful Roland Emmerich is directing unfortunately, but Tatum's acting is improving and if Foxx and Gyllenhaal (I miss her) jump on board, I'd check it out.

Either that was a bad joke or you're mistaking James Van Der Beek the actor for James Vanderbilt the screenwriter.

I don't care for her. I always get a snooty vice from her when she is mainstream movies including Dark Knight. Plus, for all the people that hate on Katie Holmes, I really didn't think Maggie Gyllenhal was any better. She was the weakest part of that movie.

I'm sure she make no secret that she is slumming it in this movie too.

This gets shlockier and cooler as it goes. It's shaping up to remind of a less high-concept version of Vantage Point, actually. An underrated film, in my opinion, even if the execution was a bit sloppy.

If Emmerich Really Wanted to Impress Me

He'd make Maggie the star of the flick, not stupid Channing Tatum. A female John McClane crawling around a building, savin' the motherfuckin' day.

As it stands, I'm guessing she's just another name in another pointlessly star-studded dumb-as-dirt Roland Emmerich film. Of the 'terrorists take over the White House' projects, I'm more psyched for the Antoine Fuqua/Gerard Butler flick.
