Maleficent 2 may be in the cards for Angelina Jolie

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Is that a spoiler?  Does anyone care?  Alright, well, it seems MALEFICENT is doing okay in theaters so far.  It’s raked in about $75 million domestically and $100 overseas, so that’s a good start for a film that probably cost somewhere around the $200 million range to make.  Then you have to account for marketing, which was extensive, to say the least.  I feel like a list of places that I DIDN’T see Angelina Jolie‘s face would be quicker at this point, which from the sound of it is more villanious that anything she did in the feature-film.  Anywho, while press-conferencing her way through China, Angelina Jolie was approached about possibly donning the horns again.

She had this to say:

It’s kind of hard to top her. She was pretty fun. Maybe I’ll get the chance to play her again.

I know what you’re thinking; that means nothing. And for the most part, you’re right. She’s doing a press tour and you kinda want to keep things at the positive end of the spectrum while your flick is in theaters. It’s not like she would ever say, “Oh god no. Did you see the movie? What an experience. I’d rather shoot Hackers 2 in IMAX 3D.” Before we can talk sequels and possible cross-overs (does Sam Jackson not recruit her post-credits?), we have to see how much bank MALEFICENT does. The summer movie season will turn on ya. Big, box-office numbers one weekend and then flat-lining the next. This coming weekend sees the release of two films getting some good buzz, in EDGE OF TOMORROW and THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, but is that enough to take down names as popular as MALEFICENT and Angelina Jolie?

MALEFICENT is now in theaters.
