Man of Steel sequel officially moving forward with Zack Snyder and David S. Goyer onboard

06.10.2013

Well, that was fast.

According to Deadline, the sequel to MAN OF STEEL is officially moving forward with director Zack Snyder once again at the helm and screenwriter David S. Goyer once again scripting. "Goyer’s deal is part of a huge 3-picture deal he signed at Warner Bros for Man Of Steel, the sequel, and Justice League with Superman," says Deadline, which is consistent with rumors we've heard all along. Reportedly, Christopher Nolan's role will be less "full blown" on this one, but even Cavill has pointed out that Nolan's involvement has been minimal, saying:

"Chris Nolan wasn't there during the production itself, although I'm not sure how much work was done behind the scenes. I'm sure Zack had a phone call or two with him, but this is definitely Zack's baby. He was the man in charge, and we created the character together, as opposed to having too many outside influences."

No details on start/release dates, but my guess is they'll put this on the fast track after the numbers roll in this weekend. One thing this news confirms is that the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie is no longer the priority and it shows that perhaps Warner Bros. is taking it slow in developing their "phase" of films, rather than tossing them out there just to compete. Certainly, they could hire on another director to helm JUSTICE LEAGUE, but with this dynamic going, I'm willing to put all my chips on Snyder and Goyer taking the reins on it as soon as MAN OF STEEL 2 is complete. Any takers on that bet?

MAN OF STEEL hits theaters this week and is trending as THE movie to see this summer. I expect big numbers that will likely eclipse what's being tracked, but we'll know soon enough.

MAN OF STEEL opens this Friday, June 14, 2013.

Thank goodness they're going this direction. There's so much territory to explore in Superman's world before they get to Justice League (and plenty for afterwards, too)

Sounds like they are following the same path that Marvel took with Iron Man. Using the sequel to set up the epic collaboration and I assume introducing a few other characters prior to the release of Justice League.

Awesome

Do Man of Steel sequel , dont make Lex Luthor the main villain, bring Brainiac or even better Doomsday. After that make Superman and Batman (introducing us the new Batman or try to get Christian Bale back). And then do Justice League.

I don't think in recent times any other movie had so much riding on itself, the whole DC lineup is practically hanging on it's back....And if any one can take it, its Superman. Right now listening to the OST of MoS, and only one word coming to mind: EPIC!!! I can just feel the tension, excitements & thrills of the scenes!

For the villains, I'd say go with Brainiac. He's one of the greatest Superman villain but we never had him in big screen. James Marsters' superbly entertaining portrayal in

James Marsters' superbly entertaining portrayal in Smallville showed us what a great villain he could be. Luther can be in the background, and then in the 3rd one (or World's Finest) he should be the main bad (President Lex, anyone?)

Glad WB are beginning to get some good sense over this - slowly slowly catchy monkey - and the rewards will be greater. Give Superman another showing and more understanding that he can't save the world on his own (someone more or just as dangerous as Zod needs to be introduced for the sequel - so please, not Lex as the main villain). A second movie gives WB's time to bring out a new Batman movie ...possibly Wonder Woman and Flash too. Use Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern (yes the first movie

Use Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern (yes the first movie sucked - but just give us a better second showing and all will be forgiven or just have him show up next in a smaller/camoe role in perhaps a Superman movie which creates the connection for a JL movie - or just go the Hulk route and have him next show up in the JL movie) If we're going to use lower tier characters too in perhaps smaller roles and/or to force home just how big their universe is - I'm all for WB's bringing in the Arrow tv show in to this - be f-ing awesome if references are made in season 2 to this larger than life world.

Cool guess WB finally has the confidence to move forward & yes I hope the villain is Braniac or Bizarro. Can't wait to finally see Man of Steel!

Hopefully with a New Villian that has never been used.

Would love to see Brainiac finally brought in as a villain, or maybe Superman could take a trip to Bizarro World

To the surprise of nobody. But, seriously I am looking forward to this film it looks great. The comic book movie/superhero genre can only get better if DC gets on track like Marvel is.

Yes For Snyder, No For Goyer

I am still not sold on David S. Goyer as a writer. He has been responsible for some awful scripts in the past and is better served with a co-writer who actually has talent. He didn't even script the last two Dark Knight films, and Batman Begins had some cringeworthy lines that likely came from him. At least Nolan contributed to the writing process on Man Of Steel. I don't trust Goyer on his own (and Snyder hasn't proved much better as a writer.)

Wow!

They must be really confident in Man of Steel to already greenlight a sequel! Hopefully that bodes well for the reception of the movie. I've always felt this would be the movie of the year, despite Iron Man 3 making so much money but not being very good at all (in my opinion). Not to mention it's confirmed that David Goyer is writing the Justice League story too. Nothing but good news here!

Man of Steelers

Superman signs a huge contract to play every position for the Pittsburgh Steelers and goes on to win multiple Super Bowls until Lex Luthor halts the win streak with a kryptonite laced football.
This is for realz, I read it on the internet.

This is terrific and exciting news! Man of Steel is going to make SO much money this weekend that it's not even funny. Hopefully in the sequels or the Justice League film we get to see Brainiac, Darkseid, and Doomsday. It would be great to see Superman go head to head with his most violent and psychical villains on the big screen.

And hopefully we get more news regarding a Green Lantern 2 with Reynolds returning, or any sort of news on a Flash or Wonder Woman origins film.

I just hope they don't start getting careless with the Superman character like the movies before it. Hopefull WB and DC makes better quality movies than those other guys. My 2 cents worth.

From the beginning I always preferred a stand-alone Superman trilogy similar to what Nolan did for Batman. The Justice League idea seemed too rushed and just an excuse to try to capitalize on the Avengers. This is good news for me.

World's Finest

They need to do a Man of Steel sequel (NOT called Man of Steel 2!), then do a World's Finest team up with Supes and Batman, then move to Justice League. Possibly during that time frame they can work in other solo films.
