Updated! Man of Steel not receiving the IMAX 3D post-conversion treatment and picks up a new synopsis

Update: WB has confirmed that MAN OF STEEL is not currently set to be post-converted into IMAX 3D.  That doesn't mean it won't still happen - perhaps the cat was merely let out of the bag early ahead of a big planned announcement? Or not, I suppose. Either is possible.

Original Story: 3D is still going strong despite my bitching to my friends about it, and the latest project to take the path well-traveled and post-convert to 3D is going to be Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL. Though in this case it will not just be any 3D but IMAX 3D specifically, which is probably the smart choice for a movie as vast in scope as MAN OF STEEL undoubtably is.

As to why it wasn't shot in 3D to begin with, that I cannot tell you.  Perhaps Snyder initially held out due to producer Christopher Nolan's personal stance on 3D (he's not a fan) but has since changed his mind and/or been strong-armed by the studio.  Perhaps, now that the release date is still just a bit less than a year away, Warner Bros and Snyder collectively decided "why the hell not."  Anyway and either way, it is now happening.

MAN OF STEEL will be out in cinemas on June 14th, 2013.  Our first real glimpse of the movie's progress should come this Saturday at Comic-Con and, I think it's easy to imagine, a week after that as a trailer in front THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

The new plot synopsis: In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world's beacon of hope - Superman.

Amy Adams is going to be the best Lois Lane a Superman project has seen, hands down.

So can't wait. Could be the first great superhero movie (Don't count Batman as pure comic) since.. ever?!
Zack is one of the very few in Hollywood who actually have a sense for visual style/orgasm. Finally a superhero movie which actually looks like a superhero.. movie/comic?

Hate me all you want, but this plot synopsis sounds like the first 9 seasons of SMALLVILLE.....And after spending years on a brooding moping Clark Kent (I really love Tom Welling, but sometimes its too much!), I'm a bit bummed that there's gonna be YET ANOTHER brooding moping Clark Kent on big screen. Still, the ensemble cast alone giving me high hopes, I mean Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Amy Adams, Lawrence Fishburne and a promising Henry Cavill.....Are you

Just hope that its more rousing & uplifting like ROCKY and less dark & gloomy like...well every other superhero movies today.

If Snyder "sucker punches" Superman too then he should just give up already and stop making films.

I know a lot of people love 300 but in my opinion he hasn't made a good film since Dawn of the Dead. Though I must say that I haven't given Watchmen a 2nd viewing yet. I saw it in the theater with an annoying sibling who kept whining that he wanted to leave, every 10 minutes after the first hour, that didn't help me to like the movie a whole lot.

Can't wait

To see Michael Shannon as the villian. He's a remarkable actor and nails the creepy factor down incredibly well. I think Cavill and Adams are great choices and the fact that this is going to be a story by Chris Nolan and David Goyer, how can anyone NOT be excited for this??? This very well may be the Superman movie we've all been waiting for.

In the first film, I recall the humans having one of the alienís small ships that crashed in the 1950's(?). In all that time, they couldn't work out how it worked. So...in the 16 or so years since that movie...with all that alien tech lying around the earth...what chance that they (realistically - yes, I know it's not like that applied in any other part of the movie) still havenít worked out how it all works...especially since whatever they find will have already been seriously damaged.

Realistically (yes, I know), it's quite possible that the humans still won't know how to deal with the aliens...and that one loop hole an Apple laptop took advantage off, well, realistically ;o) the aliens, if they have any intelligence, will have worked out how to overcome it - though I understand why it won't matter if they end up (once again) letting in a long lost shipÖmodified to carry nukes and no one notices.

What the plot synopsis should be. I'm a twenty-something alien with the ability to kick the living shit out of anyone or anything on this planet, why the fuck do I care what these people think of me. This kind of brooding self-exploration works for a teen-age Peter Parker, not for the original boy scout Clark Kent. Maybe Snyder will pull this off, but consider me skeptical till I see some footage.

There's always the 2D option.
Now the question is: Did Zack Snyder shoot this in 2D keeping in mind a post conversion (like they did in Captain America)? If so, it MIGHT work...don't get me wrong, I'm against post conversion but truth be told, they did a decent job in Captain America.
I'll settle for the 2D version I guess...until I see more.

Ms. Adams!

Couldn't agree more with your extra tidbit. I don't know if I could handle seeing Ms. Adams on an IMAX screen; heart-attack inducing : )

I was kind of expecting this news, but didn't really think it would happen. I wouldn't mind as much if it were filmed in 3D, as I loved the 3D in Avatar and Hugo, as well as, Transformers 3. It will probably have some nice shots, but it's still a shame. I don't know if it's my eyes, but sweeping shots in 3D always seem very blurry to me. I noticed a lot of blur in Titanic, which surprised me. Still excited to see Supes though.
