Mark your calendars! Christopher Nolan's Interstellar gets a release date!

Mar. 8, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Time to scribble in a new date on your must-see movie calendar as Christopher Nolan's next effort, INTERSTELLAR, now has a release date, debuting on November 7, 2014. The film "involves time travel and alternate dimensions in a story that sees a group of explorers travel through a wormhole. The script is based on scientific theories developed by a Kip Thorne, a theoretical physicist, a gravitational physicist and astrophysicist at Caltech."

When we last reported on INTERSTELLAR, Nolan was not yet locked as director and was reworking the script by his brother, Jonathan, which once had Steven Spielberg attached to helm.  Now, Nolan is officially set to helm the mysterious sci-fi pic and we can all breathe a little easier knowing that the helmer has something in the pipeline.

Here's the official press release:

Brad Grey, Chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures said, “As a filmmaker and storyteller, Chris has continuously entertained the world with his extraordinary and unparalleled talents. I am pleased beyond measure to welcome him to the Paramount Pictures family. Partnering with Chris, Emma, Lynda and Warner Bros. to release this original idea next November is the perfect way to start the Thanksgiving and holiday movie season for audiences around the world.”

Jeff Robinov, President, Warner Bros. Pictures Group, said, “Christopher Nolan is truly one of the great auteurs working in film today, and we’re extremely proud of our successful and ongoing collaboration with him and Emma Thomas. We are excited to be teaming with Paramount, and look forward to working with the Nolans, and producer Lynda Obst, on this extraordinary new project.”

INTERSTELLAR will hit theaters on November 7, 2014

in traditional and IMAX theaters.
Extra Tidbit: It's too soon to cast anything specific, but who would you like to see Nolan work with on this?

As much as I like Nolan, I am more anxious to see Wally Pfisters directorial debut. I take for granted Nolan will craft a fine film.

Robert Downey Jr. , Josh Brolin , Joaquin Pheonix, Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba. It's just a wish list but hopefully a couple will work with him.

Would love to see this cast or at least have Nolan cast the majority of it.

Hmmm.... then that could put it in close proximity with Bond 25 (provided that they're still for a 2014 release). That said, sorry 007, "In Nolan We Trust"!

Yawn

I hope it's bloated, overlong, self-serious, and borderline nonsensical. I'd hate to see him change his style.

Consider me interested. We've watched him tip-toe into the sci-fi realm with Inception (and a wee bit of The Prestige), but I'm excited to see him take the Nestea plunge.

Still hoping for the Howard Hughes biopic that he was going to do (which purportedly took place after the events of The Aviator), but given that DiCaprio said he was going to take a break from acting for awhile anyway, I can wait.

Yes! Best news of the day!

I'm wondering who he'll be hiring as his next cinematographer for this.

I'd love to see Nolan convince Gene Hackman to come out of retirement for this. Gene's been away too long.

Awesome sauce. 2014 is shaping up to be one hell of a year at the movies. And I don't see "3D" anywhere in this press release, which is also a good thing.

HOLY SHIT TIme travel, alternate universe, wormhole....

Just the kind of dream conceptual mindf*ck I want from The Christopher Nolan!! Now I know what is my no.1 most-awaited of 2014, no competion.

I know it probably wouldn't happen now that Nolan is the boxoffice king of Hollywood, but I secretly hope that Interseller will be a kinda back to the basics like Memento or Prestige with a shorter budget and a more intimate scale rather than the epical grandeur of Inception or TDK Trilogy. I just think it'd be a nice change of pace.

Tidbit: Guy

Tidbit: Guy Pearce, obviously. He's one of the few actor who didn't work with Nolan more than once, and as that film was Memento which practically build Nolan's rep, I think he need's a comeback. Plus, Pearce can easily look like an everyman who is a genious scientist.

I would like to see him work with Hugh Jackman again, but with an actor he hasn't worked with yet, I'd say Rachel Weisz.

Yay my birthday is the next day, This will definitely be my birthday movie next year =)

And also this used to have Spielberg attached, does anyone remember the PC Game he worked on, The Dig? I think from 1995, he wanted to make it a film but couldn't technically. Sounds a little similar

Time to get hyped again! Thanks for the video as well. I really admire Nolan. He's truly a workman's filmmaker who built himself up on his own merits. Following was a great film because of it's writing, and that is all thanks to Nolan's own talent. A lot of people like to criticize Nolan fans for being too faithful or blind of any criticism this guy gets, but I honestly think he's the best director working and everything he does gets me excited. I'll be following this film until after it's

I've comfortably sat on the Nolan band-wagon for years now, so I'll follow this guy on whatever he does.
