Mark Zuckerberg to appear with Jesse Eisenberg on this weekend's SNL?

01.28.2011

When it comes to giving THE SOCIAL NETWORK any extra publicity, Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg haven't been very accommodating. When prompted for a response to THE SOCIAL NETWORK being nominated for 8 Oscars, Facebook issued a statement saying, "We've said all we're going to say about the movie and the books. We've moved on from this discussion." Zuckerberg did take some Facebook employees to see the movie but later said, in very Zuckerbergian fashion, "We build products that 500 million people see. If 5 million people see a movie, it doesn’t really matter that much." But is the Facebook finally set to add SOCIAL NETWORK as a friend? (God, I hate myself for making that joke.)

The NY Post is reporting that both SOCIAL NETWORK producer Scott Rudin and "Saturday Night Live" creator Lorne Michaels are making a full-court press to convince Zuckerberg to make an appearance on this weekend's SNL, which features Jesse Eisenberg as the host. And shock of all shocks, Zuckerberg is reportedly "interested" in the cameo.

Two things to keep in mind: 1) The news originates in the Post's gossip column Page Six, and 2) The state of each episode of "Saturday Night Live" is constantly in flux from day-to-day and hour-to-hour and what looks good on Thursday may not work on Saturday. That said, that Zuckerberg is reportedly even considering the movie, as the paper says to "show his sense of humor," is a surprise, especially given that Eisenberg still has yet to meet Zuckerberg in person.

Will it happen? Who knows but it should make for some interesting viewing if it does and should certainly give THE SOCIAL NETWORK a little added Oscar buzz...

I'd be cool with this. Maybe he will come off of his "this movie is trash" stance. I really didn't think the movie portrayed him poorly, if anything I thought it was very sympathetic towards him showing him as a guy who was very socially inept but definitely not a "bad guy".

Zuckerberg was in my dream yesterday, he and Sylvester Stallon from 1982 were good buddies apparently. That just woke me up.

Did you Know?

I was reading the trivia page on imdb on "The Social Network" recently and stumbled across this nice little tidbit. During one of the depositions, it is mentioned that the invention of Facebook made Mark Zuckerburg "the biggest thing on a campus that included nineteen Nobel Laureates, fifteen Pulitzer Prize winners, two future Olympians, and a movie star." One of the lawyers then asks, "Who was the movie star?" and the response is, "Does it matter?" This movie star was, in fact, Natalie

This movie star was, in fact, Natalie Portman, who was enrolled at Harvard from 1999 to 2003 and helped screenwriter Aaron Sorkin by providing him insider information about goings-on at Harvard at the time Facebook first appeared there

Douche

Bag... mark Zuckerberg just seems like a douche to me. I know he apparently isn't as bad as The Social Network made him out to be, but with this comment I dunno. I am hip to the news of him being on SNL though. We'll see...

I didn't read this, because I was too busy facepalming at how much of a stereotypical basement-dwelling virgin Zuckerberg looks. Surely a billionaire would be able to afford a stylist or something for what is clearly a professional photoshoot? Fuck me.

M.O.T.W.

I know I take a lot of shit for being a parade pisser, but The Social Network, if directed by anyone other than Fincher, would have been a televised Movie of the Week on ABC. So overrated.

Animal Kingdom, The Way Back, True Grit, Black Swan and even The King's Speech were the real deal. The Social Network is all hype.

Zuckerberg can eat it.

Wow. I never thought about it that way. I mean up until now everybody thought a movie about the creation of Facebook was a sure thing and it didn't matter who the writer and director were or who any of the actors were.

In case you're wondering, yes, that is sarcasm.

Do not fucking promote this on SNL, this films deserves more than people thinking it's a funny film, it isn't.

If movies being spoofed on SNL lead you to erroneously believe that the movies being spoofed are comedies when they are not... you are the only one being fooled.

So take comfort; The Social Network is in no danger of being miscast as a screwball romp.

There Will Be Blood was parodied on SNL also; I don't think anyone thought it was comedy though. Relax.

Did you actually see the movie? When the Mark Zuckergerg character met the twins he said "Are you two related?" There were a lot of lines like that. The Mark Zuckerberg character held everybody in contempt and, yeah, it was kind of funny.

If it's not a digital short

and it's funny, count on Lorne 86-ing the skit before it goes live.
