Martin does George

We’re all waiting with baited breath to see what Martin Scorsese’s next fictional film will be, after the unanimous success that was THE DEPARTED, and I use the word ‘fictional’ because Scorsese has announced that he’ll be making a documentary about the late Beatle George Harrison.

Harrison died in 2001 (I can’t believe it’s been that long) and Variey is reporting that Scorsese will team with Harrison’s family to produce a comprehensive story about the rock legend’s life, including his career as a Beatle, his successful solo efforts, his life as a movie mogul (he produced MONTY PYTHON’S LIFE OF BRIAN and TIME BANDITS) and his quest for spirituality, which has taken on legendary status. Surviving Beatles member Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are expected to participate. I fully expect this film to continue in the tradition of Scorsese’s other great rock documentatres, THE LAST WALTZ and NO DIRECTION HOME. And unlike the latter Bob Dylan documentary, this one is expected to have a theatrical release.
