Martin Lawrence says Bad Boys 3 will actually happen

With Will Smith and Michael Bay both commanding bajillions of dollars to show up to a movie these days, the prospect of another BAD BOYS sequel would need a lot of stars to align to get it made. But the franchise’s less expensive star, Martin Lawrence, says he’s talked to all the majority parties, and the sequel should be happening.

“Any time you can get Big Willie to come out and talk about doing a third installment of a hot movie like ‘Bad Boys,’ you have to take notice. I met with Michael Bay , and he said he’s onboard too — so it’s real…We’re just waiting on Jerry Bruckheimer to let us know when it’s really real.”

So I would guess that “real” means that all the players are onboard and ready to go and “really real” means the studio is actually greenlighting the project. Peter Craig is already writing a script for it, and with way, way more unnecessary sequels making to the the big screen these days, I don’t think it’s that far fetched to expect BAD BOYS III in a few years.

I’d be all for another one I suppose, though it’s the kind of movie Will Smith can act and Michael Bay can direct in their sleep. A cocky smooth talker in a film filled with explosions really isn’t expanding either of their repertoires, but it is what each does best. My only request is that they don’t bring in a third partner just for the sake of “spicing things up.”
