Martin Scorsese film montage from Golden Globes

01.18.2010

Today, it appears that the general opinion of the Golden Globes was a negative one. People don't seem to be happy with the fact that AVATAR got best drama nor do they buy the idea of Sandra Bullock as a potential Oscar winning actress. No matter what you thought there was one thing you could agree on, and that is the undeniable talent of Martin Scorsese.

Scorsese was honored last night with the Cecil B. DeMille award. Leonardo DiCaprio gave a perfect introductory speech that lead into a great montage of the director's films. It ended with a quote from Scorsese that I think all filmmakers should keep in mind, "Movies are the memories of our lifetime. We need to keep them alive."

So whether you saw it or not, here's the video including Scorsese's wonderful acceptance speech. Please enjoy!

Extra Tidbit: I've heard people rip on THE AVIATOR, but in my opinion that is an amazing movie.

This made me realize just how rare of a talent he is being that his films are just as good now as they were when he first started 40 years ago. Not only that, but in all that time, he hardly ever struck out with any of his films. I personally don't give the man enough credit for his work.

My all time favourite director!

So great to see that intro, montage and speech on Sunday. It was by far the best part of the show and very moving. I love Scorsese.

His quote makes me sad

after seeing what people decided should be "kept alive" at that damn ceremony.

New York, New York...

I wonder why they left that off the list? Weird.

Although I'm not a huge Scorsese fan, I do enjoy his movies. I liked the montage, and his speech, even more. I didn't know he was a preservationist of old movies.

I love Mean Streets. I also agree that The Aviator is amazing.

Sure, the clips are great, but in the end, wasn't it just a promo for Shutter Island(Everyone cashes in on this little award show)?

Which isn't a horrible thing because Shutter Island does look like a worthwhile watch.

Scorsese aside (and Jeff Bridges) the entire night was a pure joke. A seriously annoying pure joke.
