Martin Scorsese's documentary George Harrison: Living in the Material World gets a trailer
Finally! For fans of former Beatle George Harrison and Martin Scorsese's documentary work (NO DIRECTION HOME, THE LAST WALTZ), here's that little something you've all been waiting for: the trailer for GEORGE HARRISON: LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD.
And it is excellent, giving us a taste of what will be touched on while wonderfully showcasing both the styles of Scorsese and Harrison in a single swath of shorthand. While most peoples' favorite Beatles are understandably either McCartney or Lennon (sorry Ringo!), it's Harrison whose spirituality, quiet nature, and insane, often under-appreciated musical talent which has made him perhaps the most interesting of the Fab Four. I can't wait to see what story Scorsese tells us here.
GEORGE HARRISON: LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD will premiere at the New York Film Festival and then see a two-part presentation on HBO on October 5th and 6th. No word on whether or not the doc will be seeing any sort of theatrical exhibition.
Synopsis: Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese traces Harrison's life from his musical beginnings in Liverpool through his life as a musician, a seeker, a philanthropist, and filmmaker. Scorsese weaves together interviews with Harrison and his closest friends, performances, home movies, and photographs. Much of the material in the film has never been seen (or heard) before. The result is a rare glimpse into the mind and soul of one of the most talented artists of his generation and a profoundly intimate and affecting work of cinema.
