Marvel hires Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle to write Thor 3

01.29.2014

Not to be outdone by, well, themselves, Marvel has announced two writers that will be working on the screenplay for THOR 3. Actually, one is a writer/VP.

Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost will pen the third installment in the saga of the Norse god. Kyle serves as the senior VP of production and development at Marvel Studios. He and Yost have worked together on IRON MAN: THE ARMORED ADVENTURES and WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN. So if you need to see what their powers combined create, then check out either animated series. Yost also helped with writing duties on THOR: THE DARK WORLD.

Kevin Feige said this about the capabilities of both writers:

I am proud of Craig and have enjoyed working with him over these past years. His creative instincts have helped shape “Thor” and “Thor: The Dark World” at every level of the filmmaking process. The entire team at Marvel is very happy to continue collaborating with Craig as he continues as a screenwriter working with Christopher on the forthcoming chapter of Thor’s adventure.

Marvel is in a hurry to get things moving on phase three. It was announced yesterday that Anthony and Joe Russo were in early talks to script CAPTAIN AMERICA 3.

What do you want from the third THOR installment?

Thor 2 really benefitted from Yost's involvement - hopefully he'll work on other Marvel features post Thor 3. Love that Marvel is hiring writers from their animated shows to do the movies. DC should do the same thing (Paul Dini, dammit) but we all know they won't.

This is promising news. I was personally a fan of Wolverine and the X-Men. It was a shame that got cancelled after one season. It was a really great take on the X-Men mythos.
As for Thor 3, I'm not really familiar with Thor's rogues gallery or his supporting cast. But from what I know about Thor, the best storyline to tackle for what will be presumably the final Thor solo adventure is Ragnarok. Just go balls out and destroy Asgaard. I think that would be an amazing ending the trilogy.

Ulik, Hela, Enchantress and the Executioner, Valkyrie, Balder and the Wrecking Crew should suffice.

Good writers, loved their "X-Force" run. Should be interesting to see them tackle a movie.

I know they did it in one of the animated shorts

but I'd love to see a HULK VS. THOR on the big screen. Perhaps Hulk is controlled by an evil force?

I want to see a big bad.....

I want someone who is superior to Thor when it comes to strength. Loki can be involved or take a movie off, but we're two movies in (plus the Avengers) and the only foe who drew blood from Thor was the Hulk. It has to be someone he digs down deep to beat, he gets help from the Warriors Three, Odin, Loki, or even Jane (as long as it's actual scientific help and not some magic that makes her Gweneth Paltrow on steroids). I'd even go with Beta Ray Bill (although that might be a tough sell) as a

It would be lots of fun to see how the MCU handles Beta Ray Bill. I think they might be more open to a character like that following Guardians of the Galaxy.

Valkyrie and the Enchantress. I think Chris Hemsworth mentioned wanting to take the whole thing to Ragnarok and have Surtur as a villain, which would be ambitious and pretty interesting.

I'm excited to see another Captain America and Thor film, but I just hope with phase three we get an Incredible Hulk 2. I think it's kind of crap how each core member of the Avengers gets their own personal trilogy, but the Hulk only gets one film. Excited to see that and Doctor Strange the most for phase three.

Couldn't agree more. Where's the Hulk love for God's sake? He was only the single best thing about The Avengers.

I think marvel have realised hulk is a boing character who can't carry his own film. He works great in an ensemble, but the character of hulk is just not interesting enough to get anymore solo films.
